Mayo Chiki! #05 — Hazardous To Delicate Equipment

August 4th, 2011

Although I bet you could harness his powers for scientific gain.

Impressions:

I’m not entirely sure how one can be ploughed by a scooter and have their glasses end up stuck in the rider’s stockings… or how someone doesn’t notice a pair of glasses wedged into their crotch. I think time and space just warp around Kinji. Clothing in general seems to have issues functioning in his general proximity. Somebody should probably look into that. It sounds like it would have a deleterious effect on pacemakers.

The ‘meat’ of the episode, if you can even call it that, is the introduction of Usami Masamune, yet another combative character with a crush on Subaru. I’m not sure what role she fulfills that Kureha didn’t. Having twin tails and a name that’s easy to make fun of? She supposedly doesn’t like guys either, but since she has no problems with Kinji and a crush on the other ‘guy’ of the show, that schtick isn’t exactly convincing. I know that last week I said the show should get off its main characters for some needed variety, but variety was the key word there. Since Kinji is a human rug, he of course immediately does her bidding without question while she spends the entire time yelling at him. The only thing missing from this particular irritating archetype is that she wasn’t voiced by Kugimiya Rie.

Yet more Masamune.

    – she isn’t a loli

Is there any girl in this show that only wants Jirou?

    • Aex says:

      No. No there is not.
It’s probably some “new style” they’re trying instead of regular “harem”. Not loving it. Not living it at all.

    Tsunderevolution!

  • Yue says:

You’re enjoying this, aren’t you? You won’t openly admit it because you’re tsundere. ^_^

  • Aex says:

Typical tsundere introduction = boring. Jirou’s lack of ability to explain things = typical for male lead. I think I’ve seen clones of this episode 100 times already.
