Detective Opera Milky Holmes #07.5 — “To Say Goodbye is to Die a Little”
August 25th, 2011
Nice… lightsticks…
The episode ended with a preview for episode #08, so let’s go with that. It’s probably just that episode 8 is what that broadcaster is showing next week since this was unnumbered, but whatever!
Impressions:
Yep. It is a good season for OVAs, although this certainly wasn’t the strongest Milky Holmes episode. Nowhere near enough of the main cast. I’ve got no problems with Kokoro, but dumping on her of all characters does work all that well comedically. Plus, as usual, there was not nearly enough Twenty. …There’s never enough Twenty… *ahem* While they did hit the musical direction well towards the end to actually give those silly dramatic scenes a little tension, it’s still not quite in sync with the show’s general tone. Not to mention that it felt compressed and rushed as all hell, particularly Arsene et all running off the moment Kokoro came back.
JC Staff clearly had far more money than they knew what to do with here. Besides the whole idol insert during the fight at the end, there were quite a few very strange zooms and pans all around that really made absolutely no sense whatsoever, particularly the one where Sherl showed up at G4’s HQ and the camera sort of aimlessly meandered around the room. It was nonetheless a decent episode though. Kokoro started out kidnapped and forced to be an idol by Irene, and with G4 also being crapped on by the police and nobody seemingly caring if she left them to become an idol (or supporting her doing it), she left to go be a star. Yada yada. Found her true calling again. And then Moriarty was an idol.
Now just begins the long wait for season 2 to start.

“Nowhere near enough Twenty”
“There was not nearly enough Twenty. ”
“There’s never enough Twenty”
I think there is a pattern there…
