Dog Days #12 — Heavy Petting

June 18th, 2011

These animal people let anybody touch their ears.

Impressions:

Well, that was lame. Another episode of absolutely nothing going on. Rico was just crying in a corner last week about Shinku leaving foreeeeever without remeeeeeeeembering things. Ha. Give me a break, Seven Arcs. And once that’s dealt with, it’s just putzing around doing random things and thanking people. And that’s really about it. Oh sure, we learn random ‘fascinating’ tidbits, like Yukikaze’s rack really is apparently literally divine, but come on… we still have a prophecy of "THESE PEOPLE WILL BE FACE DOWN IN BLOOD GRAPE JUICE IN A MONTH. THIS FUTURE WILL NOT CHANGE" hanging over our heads here. They can’t really be trying to sell that that future was changed by… I don’t even know what.

Given Seven Arcs’ previous shenanigans with unannounced split seasons, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the show’s not actually over next week at all (other shows are beginning in its timeslot the week after though), but I could just be rationalizing the hell out of the fact that the writing here is just so unambitious that it hurts. At least shows like C and T&B are trying. Failing miserable by their inability to focus long enough to pass a sobriety test, but trying nonetheless. This is just empty space… little more than head rubbing, playing fetch, tail wagging, and all-but recycled bathing scenes. At least mix up who Shinku walks in on and then has to pet. Yukikaze looks soft. Pet her.

The simplest way to counter a prophecy is to try to recreate the scene as it looks (doing it at a specified time is harder, but possible with coordination/strategy) so it’s under controlled circumstances. Do they even know about this prophecy yet? I mean, knowing is half the battle.

There’s another episode? I swore this ended at twelve. :|

  • sage says:

    >Shinku and Ricotta alone on a bed
    >He doesn’t sex her
    >Shinku and Milhi alone in the bath
    >He doesn’t sex her

    WHY can’t I hold all these WHY.jpg

  • Jack says:

There’s way too much head petting. It’s fucking creepy. I’m all for cat/dog ears/tails in anime, but the head petting is whacked out societal dominance issues. He’s looking down on them.

    Speciesism…clearly.

  • Aex says:

I’ll tell you the point of this episode! To firmly and undeniably drive home how ridiculously cute Leon can be. That is all. XD

  • feal87 says:

    Let’s hope for a good ending, otherwise…meh. :P

    I WHOLE-HEARTEDLY SECOND THIS NOTION.

I mean, even Ricotta have more screen time with Shinku. Or it might be me making things up.

  • Someone says:

    “Hero Return Policy”

If you don’t like the hero you chose, feel free to return it in like-new condition?

  • kenuran says:

Its been a very disappointing ride so far. The show has felt like the writers had the setting down but only had like 20% of an idea of what to do with that setting.

I can only hope that they dont pull something as insane as having Shinku run into people who look exactly like Milhi and crew in his own world that “reminds him of those times” for the last episode. That would just destroy me.

I really do hope that Seven Arcs makes a Dog Day-A’s: Afternoon or something. They can’t really let the series end without the characters not really doing anything.

  • jingoi says:

Why the hell is Shinku in the bath with the pink girl again?
    (I’ve only watched ep 2)

    • Scott says:

Mystical forces cause male protagonists to be with females in the nude, or touch their breasts, or land on top of them, or let them see up their skirts…

  • Aperture Scientist says:

Didn’t Milhi’s dog go to Shinku’s world and come back? The dog (is the dog a girl?) obviously had her memories since she knew she was supposed to get a hero.

    • marvelous stan says:

Magic dog was an obvious plothole from the second they said he couldn’t go back. I imagine the apology is something along the lines of it being some kind of spirit ninja dog familiar thing.
