Sengoku Maidens #02 — Battery Life

Japanese cell phones are truly a marvel.

Impressions:

This episode was a drastic improvement over the first in almost every way. Production, humor, characterization, you name it. Still not enough that I would call this show good, but it’s now up to harmlessly stupid. Hideyoshi herself was a lot more charming this episode too since she dropped the blithering idiot act and just became cheerfully dumb with no real complaining about suddenly being thrown into the middle of war. That does lead to a very weird disconnect where they go to a ravaged village, so she pulls up her sleeves, turns on the J-Pop, and helps the orphans start cleaning up. Okay, Miley. War is… uh… whatever. Furthermore, you would still think someone who was sent back in time with a history book about the era would be able to find something… anything… to use that for, but apparently the De Lorean never made it to Japan. Also, her phone seems to have unlimited electricity. You’d think that would be polluting the timeline too.

Setting Qwaser aside since I skipped… uh… 90% of the first season, I guess at the moment I’m leaning towards this over TWGOK. When it comes to bad shows, I prefer the unknown over the known. I’ve already said basically everything I have to say about Keima et all. Besides, that’s one of the few shows that CR’s actually almost truly simulcasting so I’m sure there’ll be dozens of people clawing over each other to get at it. "Simultaneous" apparently means any time within five days this season. I guess I’ll give both one more week. Stupid Mondays.

Jesus christ, how small is she, or how big is SHE? Either the scaling is weird there, or that girl is like the hamster mascot of this series.

Joy of joys, “harmlessly stupid” is my favorite genre of them all, be it with girls who are also squids or with kind of slow art class students with glasses too big for their face.

Considering how low my expectations were for this, it’s somewhat of a pleasant surprise.

So the show upgraded to the level of Koihime? Guess that’s not too bad…

  • shadow says:

is boring as koihime, more cute girls playing the heroine

This show is effectively cute. I was glad to see this episode get posted.
And… It’s the second day… my cellphone battery lasts for more than 2 days. Maybe it’s because I don’t have friends, but I don’t think that was a valid point to pick on this show for.
The music video, I agree, was a ham-handed way to handle how she helped the villagers.
