Is This a Zombie? #07 — Till Death Do Us Part
February 21st, 2011
I don’t think marriage to zombies is legally binding, even between undead.
Impressions:
Meh. Not one of this show’s stronger episodes. Not even one of this show’s mediocre episodes either. It’s kind of centered around the introduction of Mael Strom, another ninja popcorn random adjective noun like Sera and also Haruna starting to get jealous and possessive over Ayumu, but doesn’t really commit enough to either to even fill half the episode. Most of the humor just comes from the exceptionally bizarre fight against a horse while Ayumu gets molested by floating jelly fish. Like all ninja since… I don’t even know, probably Ranma 1/2… Mael comes with the caveat that she must marry the first person who kisses her. And that’s about all her character is so far. She delivers demon killing ramen and starts out as a blushing only semi-resistant bride to Ayumu.
That’s really about it for the episode outside of the completely unsurprising wife twist. Most of the rest was based around random overblown ‘studying’ and the legend of Death Santa. That in particular really gave the episode a total feel of pointlessness. Nothing like tossing in a montage towards the end totally unrelated to bloody anything in the entire show to really sell… nothing? Way to fill up a few minutes and get to the end of the episode, Deen. Couldn’t you have thrown in… I don’t know… a giant sky platypus or something for them to fight instead?

This one was definitely too all-over-the-place to be that good. That said, Mael is already my second-favorite girl after Yuu. Haruna’s possessiveness was nice, but with everything going every which-way it really did get lost in the shuffle.
Still looking for a reason to like Sera besides her outrageous hotness.
