A Certain Magical Index II #15 — Nun on Nun Harassment

January 21st, 2011

I wonder about the Indexverse church sometimes.

Impressions:

Well, at least this is moving right along. I can’t say that the plot of "magical fleet safeguarding magical ritual to go do… something magical… also, we should probably save the enslaved nuns" is exactly the most compelling that Index has ever been, but it did a good job of spacing out the humor this week so that whenever it started to drag, a naked nun would suddenly pop up and jolt me back to attention. I do question how Touma can even function on a ship made of magic. I mean, they’ve got the stuff in place to nullify his power against it with the whole "rebuilds itself" routine, but you’d think they’d at least put a footnote in there somewhere. Or have made the ships not luminescent blue. I swear, after the first ten minutes, it felt like my eyes were trying to chew their way backwards through my brain.

I also got a few chuckles out of Orsola somehow managing to distinguish herself as one of the few intelligent characters in the show multiple times. Bluffing the guards was good (although then discussing your plans in front of them, not so good), and the elbow to the ribs to stop Touma from ‘freeing’ the sub-nuns was also amusing. Amakusa being reduced to a cheerleader squad for Itsuwa was also part interesting, part very very sad, mostly because she spent the whole episode carrying towels around until she was bulldozed by Touma. Entendre intended. Speaking of the sub-nuns, they’re now color coded for your convenience, also amusingly arbitrary, not that it matters since everybody is just shooting at everybody else while half of them look shocked about it. Unfortunately, random explosions were about all the action this week. The CG bomber ships were just… just awful. Touma also stroked an ice golem into submission. He’s apparently only comfortable punching little girls. Aren’t we all?

Preview:

I like how half the preview is different shots of Touma punching things off screen.

  • Pronas says:

yet another butchered novel chapter, not like they can show half of the monologues that happen though.

  • Anonymous says:

Touma gets off by punching little girls.

    • rozen123 says:

it’s to help even out how many boys/men were abused in anime. We need some gender equality apparently.

      • TJ says:

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking too. Index is trying to promote gender equality in a somewhat unconventional manner. At least Agnese got a little bit of payback though.

  • d-_-b says:

I think everyone is a bit harsh towards this series.

    • Solaris says:

They just don’t get it. Would they just leave it alone it would be fine, but, no, they spit out judgements on what they don’t understand in the first place with such prig attitude it’s disgusting.

  • ~xxx says:

I am now getting used to seeing people getting their faces punch in almost all of the episodes.

  • Lero says:

I don’t know what to think about Agnese but, she still is and always will be a sadistic girl.

  • Amyable says:

Aroduc, isn’t towel girl’s name Itsuwa? Amakusa’s the name of her church/faction.

  • Norman says:

    how about new opening? ><

  • I like how the preview ends with Touma’s punch heading towards the screen. It’s like he’s almost sick of this show and wants to break out of it already.

  • The Phantom says:

This show has become so ridiculous hard to believe that is actually amusing, seriosuly the ice fleet vs the paper fleet? a wodden ship that goes underwater?

But the most contrived part is how those evil nuns are now tamed and helping touma, it really wont surpriese me at all if the golem girl or the girl with magic papers suddenly showed up to help Touma out of the blue on the next episode.

    • Solaris says:

Are paperclay magicarl girls, dragong girls that echted from eggs and zombies in a magical girl crossdress easier to believe? Anime are quite unrealistic, you know? I question your lack of fantasy sometimes.

Why should you be surprised if old chars were to reappear again?

  • Zilla says:

“I also got a few chuckles out of Orsola somehow managing to distinguish herself as one of the few intelligent characters in the show multiple times”

Which is made funnier by the fact that she’s somewhat of an airhead.
