Maiden Demon Zakuro #07 — Watching You Sleep

November 15th, 2010

Yes, yes, ceiling cat. Yada yada.

Impressions:

Not a particularly compelling episode of Zakuro this week either. One of Kei’s maids arrives to take him home, and Zakuro’s ovaries go into full overdrive. He also makes her hide her ears because his father’s a slightly insane permanently drunk racist blowhard. I guess bringing a half-demon home is less sketchy than dragging home… say… Ganryuu. Although, I am amazed that this show’s made it 7 episodes with dog/fox eared girls and hasn’t had a single obsessed fanboy appear yet. Maybe that’s going to be the final boss.

I guess outside of Zakuro being jealous the whole time, the ‘meat’ of the episode was supposed to be the short snippet of Kei’s backstory and why he was afraid of demons, but it wasn’t terribly interesting. The cat in the house is a demon that watched over them, but Kei woke up one night as a kid to see it in its demon form leering over him and got freaked out. And that’s it. Trauma resolved. Let’s have some cake. The bigger question and possibly more threatening demon are the maids. Hasn’t anybody noticed that they’re all exactly identical? Good work with the budget there, JC Staff.

    Hey!! here i am!

  • Jack says:

Ah, the cranky drunk racists father device. What a novel idea. Admittedly, the Speciesism that this show is trying to tackle does interest me. I’m sure it has been dealt better in a SciFi novel or two (or twenty), but the idea of living with organic demons in an Earth like time-line is cool.
