Samurai Girls #03 — Dog of the Yagyuu

October 17th, 2010

Woof woof.

Impressions:

Yuck. Not a good day for anime. Very exposition heavy episode centered around Jubei with the end result being "She’s a samurai." Anyway, Sen spent most of the episode cleaning house of all rivals for Muneakira’s attention before emasculating him. Failing to be able to get rid of Jubei combined with Jubei freaking out from a weird nightmare about her badass side just ended in the wholesale destruction of all female clothing in a 25 meter radius. They didn’t even really try on that action scene either. One flash grenade, a couple generic energy ink blasts, and now everybody’s either naked or wearing a shirt that doesn’t even reach down to their hips.

It could have just been OreImo priming me with its awfulness beforehand, but they at least made the Jubei’s true identity as a puppy scene both cute and a little sad. Maybe I just have a weakness for Yuuki Aoi crying though. I’m betting it’s the OreImo thing. They did get a lot of random stuff out in the open, like Sen’s brother’s suspicious plots against Yukimura and at least remarking about the link between Muneakira and Jubei’s other side, but since that was just bringing the characters to where the audience already was, it’s hard to find much, if any entertainment there.

The biggest mystery of the episode is this chair. What the hell, ARMS? I’m trying to fathom the thought process that would lead an artist to draw a chair on top of a storage locker in a courtyard and it’s starting to make my brain tingle in unpleasant ways. Also, it appears to be floating with multiple legs in the air. It’s not even a well drawn chair!

This chair this chair this chair this chair.

No, really why is that chair there?

  • Mesousa says:

Instead of “Dog of the Yagyuu”, maybe you should’ve named this one “Get…the comfy…CHAIR!”

  • Jack says:

The biggest mystery of the episode is this chair.

Well, in the manga, the chair represents Jubei’s Id.

  • Dual says:

    The plot thickens!

  • EXM says:

Aroduc, your thought proces is beyond my comprehension if that chair was your biggest concern in this episode.

    • Aroduc says:

Don’t worry. Someday you’ll find a sense of humor.

      • Kirby says:

Wow. What I worry of is how did you manage to notice that chair. Either you really watch the episodes carefully or then I have just been too distracted by the cute silhouette of Jubei…

      • Aroduc says:

It’s not like there was anything else to look at in that shot. Doghouse… porch… mysteriously floating chair…

  • Rednal says:

I thought the chair was a holdover from moving all of the stuff outside earlier in the episode…? And it’s just hard to see the rest because it’s dark out. I could be wrong, though.

Throughout this T & A fest, there might be a decent point in this boring storyline to hang onto. Jubei as the bad guy or the tweener!

Oh and there’s a limit to that ‘hime’ milking that childhood friend cliche. 10 years means you’re a stranger not a love interest.
