Invasion! Squid Girl #02 — Time to Walk the Squid

October 11th, 2010

Don’t forget to bring a bag for when she does her business.

Impressions:

This show still isn’t grabbing me at all. The third part was easily the strongest of the three, but it was still really not all that funny. Too much of it relies on Squid-For-Brains making silly faces, and what doesn’t is so obvious (spewing ink on the cake for example) was so obvious and drawn out that any hope for a joke was killed. It might work better in manga format since it would take only a couple seconds to read that scene, but stretching it out ten times longer than that just lets the joke be telegraphed and then the audience has to sit around and wait for them to get to the obvious punchline.

The first part was Squid-Head meeting the beach’s ‘lightsaber,’ Gorou and learning about a fellow ‘guardian of the ocean.’ The second part was her wanting a birthday, with a particularly repugnantly photographed garland simply dropped in. What the hell was that, Diomedea? The final part was Squid encountering a dog, which out-cuted her (if you say so) and resulted in her acquiring a stalker. Forcing her to act like a dog was probably the high point of the episode for me, but that was over in a matter of seconds before it was off to Yet-Another-Cosplay-Fetishisttm character. I guess at least it was less of a Keroro ripoff this week, although the show has yet to give me anything to actually care about other than a smattering of silly faces.

Why the fuck does Gorou look so ripped… compared to the manga version, the anime portrayal looks like a body builder.

And he has an 8-pack, ffs.

Japan always seems to show us her semanal doses of tentacle rape.

The episode was okay until the third segement.

Ika, it’s just some pictures of of you in different costumes modeling. For someone who doesn’t know much, she surely apperantly knows fear as a plot point.

Eiko chopping her at the end was also unnecessary, it just proves she’s more of a bitch than you’d might think.
