Heaven’s Lost Property Æ’ #04 — Battle For the Sundered Realm

October 22nd, 2010

Can’t they just tuck the melodrama into the last two minutes in a morality lesson segment?

Impressions:

An okay episode, but the show’s really swinging around the drama here with all the grace and aplomb of a drunken Scot wielding a halibut. SENGOKU ERA COMIC SNOWBALL FIGHT… Nymph melodrama… SOHARA GOING BERSERK WITH PARODY INSERT SONG… Astraea melodrama… more melodrama… dog peeing on Astraea. It’s a humor assassin waiting around every corner, but it’s always the same three or four lines. Master, blah blah, mission, blah blah, sad. I also refuse to take any scene seriously where one side is literally a talking head sticking out of a big snowball and the other side has two similarly sized boulders jutting out into her chin.

I’m also feeling a little Sengoku’d out right now. Samurai Girls sort of escapes since it’s the more tertiary generals and has little to nothing to do with the actual Sengoku era, but this… After the last season of Basara, cries of Oyakata-sama just remind me of how big a sack of crap they reduced Yukimura too. They could have done a lot more than just dressing Tomoki up as Takeda Shingen. They could have at least done a full scale reenactment of Sekigahara. I mean, come on, the sexual harassment pun is right there. How can you not do that?

FYI, MM might be a little delayed tonight. I have things that need to be taken care of around that time.

9 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Mesousa says:

Can’t anyone make a comedy without a shoehorned drama moment?

Seriously, what is your secret to survive the main character being a midget for the whole damn half-hour?

    • Kaisos says:

I have no idea why this seems to OFFEND so many people.

Did a chibi burn down your house or something?

  • Aroduc says:

Chibi molestation crimes are rarely reported.

  • Albedo says:

he wasn’t a midget for the WHOLE half hour. just the majority of it.

  • Anise_Punter says:

Snowhara monster was epic; anything involving Astraea not so much.

  • Dual says:

    Best show of the season

  • The Phantom says:

This episode was mindless but absolutely hilarious, also Ikaros threatening Astrea was pretty cool, by far my favorite part of this episode.

    • Nanaya says:

You think THIS was mindless, at one point in the manga it outright says ‘if you want plot and storyline, put this down and read something else; if you want to see fanservice, turn page.’

I think that’s around where I stopped keeping track of it.

A good episode, if a bit heavy handed with the drama. I agree though that they should just stick the drama in at the end instead of sprinkling it through the episode. It makes the pacing feel weird.
