The Blessing of La Campanella #11 — PS, The World’s Ending

September 10th, 2010

You tell ’em, Garnet.

Impressions:

This isn’t quite the direction that I was hoping that the show would go in. Not that morality speeches weren’t unexpected or even Leicester’s Ivory Tower "I’m here to save Aberdeen too," bit of nonsense, but I didn’t think the whole Avril/Aberdeen arc would be more or less wrapped up without any input from most of the cast, particularly Agnes. Maybe Nick snuck off with Chelsea, Nina, and Agnes and had their own private little ‘fight.’ It was also a little bizarre that they spent the lion’s share of the animation budget this week on Carina and Avril’s fight instead of Leicester’s. It was still pretty decent, just extremely compact and a bit anticlimactic. Compared to other show’s final arcs that I could name though… well… let’s just leave it at that.

After all the hugging and "let’s all be happy together" speeches were over, it was back to saving the world from mana ale going crazy, which is both the solution to Miriam’s magical homunculus cancer (what a twist!) as well as the final dungeon apparently. I’m assuming that Agnes/Aberdeen’s old master is going to be waiting for them there for some inexplicable reason. With all the foreshadowing, searching for her, and evil appearances she’s had in the OP, it’d be a little weird if she never showed up, even if they’re going to have to spew out some explanation on the spot. It’d be a little bit annoying for the final boss to just be the same kind of generic gem dragons that they were fighting in episode 2, especially after the beam spam and tornado sword of this week.

Off to the final dungeon to fight generic monsters.

I’m not surprised….I agree with you that the fight acne between avadeen and lecster should have been way longer….and also the three headed dragon that they are going to face in the final dungeon is so generic it’s not even funny…..I watched the raw video today….and the subbed version is probably going to be out layer today or worst cas scenario tomorrow. I really hope that the next episode is going to be good. And I also wouldn’t be suprised if agneses master was there…T.T

I wonder if the visual novel is as pale as this anime. I think they wasted a good fantasy with that generic friendship theme overabused all over the show. It’s also lacking of a decent antagonist…
At least they didn’t turn this into another fanservice festival …
But oh wait is that the reason this show was so tasteless?

  • Mesousa says:

All Sudio Ghibli movies don’t have some sort of antagonist.

    • Solaris says:

Most of Ghibli’s movies didn’t need that to begin with.
For the ones that have one, take Princess Mononoke for one. Isn’t Eboshi Gozen an awesome antagonist at all?
