Student Council Officers #07 — Life’s a Beach

August 14th, 2010

I’m all out of creative titles for the week.

Impressions:

A pretty decent episode… better than most at any rate. However, it felt like they really failed to milk certain jokes as well as they could while also going through every single bad cliched beach and inn joke like they had a checklist. Them pretending to be a family could have been used for a lot more gags. They also should have really piled on the cliches in the porn game segment and actually shown them instead of just listing out all the bad tropes, and while the image of yaoi Tsuda with one wing, an open jacket, and stigmata was dead on, that deserved more than just a visual gag. Sigh. I miss Echo of Death.

Anyway, unlike most episodes, there was actually cohesion through this one, thank the great A’Tuin. Sticking to one continuous flow instead of constantly jumping around really does help an episode feel like some effort has made in putting it together for once. Production did seem to be slipping a little more than usual with a couple fairly long incredibly cheap segments where there was nothing actually animated except the backs/tops of people’s heads, but at least the art’s remaining consistent. I guess they did learn something from PL after all.

    Oooooh a new challenger appears!

  • Albedo says:

Love this show. I don’t think there’s been an episode yet that didn’t have me laughing.

  • Yamibakeru says:

I’d suggest that the probable reason why this episode seems to flow more smoothly than others is only because they’re pretty much stuck at the beach, leaving them with no choice but to select a progression of scenes that flow nicely, but honestly, sometimes I don’t know what I’m talking about.

I suppose the random joke tactic’s the point of shows like Seitokai Yakuindomo: turn your brain off and enjoy.
