Sekirei ~Pure Engagement~ #03 — “Carp?”

July 18th, 2010

It should be criminal to be that stupid.

Impressions:

Dammit, Minato. You were doing so well. You tried to escape on your own. You tackled Haihane. You took a pile of steel girders for Kazehana. And then you went back into drooling blithering imbecile mode for the rest of the episode. If you want me to take you seriously when people start talking, then you better contribute something ot the conversation other than parroting the last word said and adding a question mark, damn it. I’m also not entirely sure how I feel about Haihane and Benitsubasa turning into comic relief. It makes them hard to take seriously as antagonists when they’re stabbing themselves in the head and trying to make jokes about how Benitsubasa is flat chested. The worst was being blasted off into the sky like Team Rocket. Admittedly, it was pretty funny, but that’s going to bite them in the ass later if they’re going to try to sell those two as serious antagonists again.

The first half of the episode was great regardless. Things got a lot less exciting when Minato’s mother showed up for random, mostly unneeded, exposition and teasing Tsukiumi. At least Karasuba was crazier than usual and Kazehana immediately went into full-on sexwife mode. Certainly not enough to make those ten minutes seem to drag after the first half, but it’s something at least. Frankly, I would have preferred more of the crazy and less of the naked apron, but that’s just me.

Preview:

Kazehana moves to Vegas and Homura goes through puberty.

    Beni’s breasts are just right.

Also, I’d wing Kazehana SO HARD.

  • Ransom says:

How close does this follow the manga?

I’m not too sure whether I should follow this or not…

    • Aex says:

Well episode 2 and 3 were kinda anime originals, but they were also used to work in the Kazehana winging and Minato’s mother’s scenes from the manga, since last season ended with the bridge fight and there really wasn’t any time for them. 90% of season 1 followed the manga pretty well too, and I’ll bet they go back to the manga after this.

I find the flat chested fetish strange but extremely humorous.

After this general point of the manga, they’re annoyances more than serious opponents (reread the manga recently to remember what happened).

@Ransom – it does follow the manga, but things were slightly shuffled around between seasons — they added this part because this ending scene was originally part of the bridge scene that was cut off by last season’s ending. I may have enjoyed this version more because of the phone bit last episode, too. That was just funny, the two people there who shouldnt be allowed to use the phone answered… XD

    good fanservice and bad fights….
    but have fanservice.

  • Nanaya says:

Heh, just watched it and I love how his mother casually handwaves that everything he’s known about her is a complete lie and she’s directly involved in his life being in constant danger. Excellent parenting there.

And wouldnt this mean that in the beginning of the series when she cut his funding and yelled at him, she knew everything that was going on and was just being a bitch? =_=

  • Garrick says:

Haihane is too cute and funny. I don’t fall for villians very often.
