Working!! #12 — Drag Queens Make Everybody Happy
June 20th, 2010
Her logic is iron clad.
Impressions:
For a Poplar centered episode, I expected a lot better. Don’t get me wrong, she was very adorable through it, but she’s like cupcake frosting. She needs Yamada, Satou, or Katanashi there to take the edge off. Some frosting is great, it wouldn’t be a cupcake without it. But this was just pure saccharine from start to finish, leaving me feeling mildly queasy and with a restraining order against using any more food analogies. The Claw and his identical twin tagteaming Yamada (every girl’s dream~~) at the start did help, but the episode was pushing Poplar and her flightiness entirely too hard. When she had someone to play off of, it was fun, but otherwise, she quickly got irritating. It was still a solid episode and better than the vast majority for this show, but I feel that they could have done a much better job with it if they had just eased off the throttle a bit.
Of course, I’m also not thrilled about the entire second half (and next week’s finale) being all about preparing Inami for a date with Takanashi either. Stupid Inami. Once an undead fun-draining vampire, always an undead fun-draining vampire. I only hope that it means the Claw and his twin will get extensive screen time. It’s not like the romantic interlude is the draw for this show anyway. They could have at least sent Yamada on a date with Katanashi for practice and tips. If there’s one thing that this season has taught me, it’s that if you include a Yamada, everything will turn out fine, although you may not be able to walk right for a month.

Isn’t is sad that you don’t get a line until the last episode, random girl?

And so it ends with a date-to. My word, a very pleasing development indeed, given the amount of build-up done for Inami and Takanashi since episode 3 or so.
Though, is that Nazuna looking worried that her onii-chan is going on a date?
Here’s to hoping that we at least hear Maya snark next episode, seeing as she’s been in the background for the entire run of the series.
