Working!! #10 — The Woman of 1,000 Faces

June 6th, 2010

And master of none.

Impressions:

This episode had a few issues with focus, but at least it didn’t suffer from the route repetition of the same joke over and over again that plagued the first few episodes. The minute long recap of last week was a bit much and a very poor way to start off the episode though. Thankfully, things got much better from there. Yamada stole the show in her scenes once again, dressing up as Katanashi and Kyouko as well as suddenly insisting that Katanashi treat her as a guest and eat with her. You would think Katanashi would enjoy Yamada as a miniature version of his female self or other people, but I guess that they have pretty much completely abandoned his gimmick after that first episode.

The whole Inami vs Nazuna thing that I was expecting to be the centerpiece of the episode didn’t actually happen until the last 5 minutes of the episode and was over a couple minutes later without any real incident. Annoyingly, a lot of the episode was spent on Inami admitting that she likes Katanashi over and over again. They are doing at least a passable job presenting Nazuna’s crush here at least though. While I still don’t like her, excessive angst, cluelessness, or melodrama over that certainly isn’t the cause. It should be patently obvious by this point that the claw is her destined partner anyway, and probably a lot better in the sack than Katanashi to boot. Those two plastic prongs really know how to touch a woman.

    INAMI-CHAN~ <3

I think Aroduc just has his loli-scope focused on Yamada and can't see the positive qualities of anything else related to this show.

  • Chen says:

I’m as surprised as you are. Yamada is stealing Popula’s thunder and Takanashi (is the misnomer intentional?) doesn’t bat an eye. I for one welcome our new loli overlord.

    • Aroduc says:

It’s easier to call him Katanashi since the sisters are all technically also Takanashi. I can’t even remember his given name off the top of my head.

      • Honoo says:

It is amazing how you can remember longer names instead of a shorter one… or maybe it’s everyone’s fault they rarely called him by his given name.

Oh well, I do forget sometimes, plus his given name is going to make us confuse him with Souma by a difference of one letter.

      • Silver says:

        @ Honoo

Great. You make me feel bad now too as I don’t remember his given name beside Takanashi, Katanashi, and … Kotori-chan. Shoot, this is not good.

      • Aroduc says:

You forgot “That Guy That Hangs Out With The Claw.”

      • Anonymous says:

So uh, what’s his name again?

      • Aroduc says:

        Souta.

  • Haesslich says:

    Mmm. Kyoukyomada…

Also, you’d have thought Mahiru would lay off the punching after last week’s confession… but I guess the course of crushes never do go easy. But Yamada is stealing a lot of Poplar’s spotlight, alas… but when they’re together, things go much better.

    • aya natsume says:

yeah…same here…i’ve been waiting so long for a poplar-centric episode…where is it? hayyyyzzz…anyways, i still like her more compared to the other girls…hehe… :D

  • Loveya says:

This show would be a thousand times better if Popura got all of Inami’s screen time.

    • aya natsume says:

yeah same here…i’ve been waiting so long for a poplar-centric episode…the series is nearing its end, but where is it? hayyyyzzzz…

oh well…she’s still my most favorite female character in this series…

      :)

  • Aex says:

Wow… so much unused potential with Nazuna’s screen-time… they really didn’t even finish the masochist joke, it just kinda… ended. Was expecting him to go home and have his sisters punch him, still thinking he liked it.

They also really need to introduce that brunette girl we keep seeing walking around and waiting on tables for like one frame an episode.

  • unrequited_sentiment says:

These segments really seem to be stagnating now.

They should go ahead and switch up character interactions. For example: Katanashi talking to Satou, Mahiru helping out Kyouko, Poplar and Souma doing something random, etc.

Now all I see in the future is pairing ping-pong, clumsily battered back and forth by running jokes. And the preview doesn’t help.

Meh, each episodes manages to provide a gem or two at least.

Scenes: Yamada wasn’t bad, Nazuna was lacking, Souta…punching bad nuff said, Inami was just plain annoying. InamixClaw forever!!! :D
