Overrun by Stray Cats! #08 — Jenga For Swingers

May 25th, 2010

Eh. I’ve seen dirtier Jenga.

Impressions:

A pretty decent episode, especially compared to last week’s abysmal affair, but it really didn’t help that they used up all the best jokes at the start and then it devolved into painful cliches, and bad stereotypes by the end… kind of like the exact same thing that this was directly parodying by the same director (Saki). Compared to having Star Platinum play Adult Jenga, extended realizations and internal monologues at the end that this whole bit was just to get into Takumi’s pants (or in Nozomi’s case, "Nyaa") were tiresome. They certainly did finally get their money’s worth out of having Horie Yui on contract this week though.

They also missed numerous opportunities to really go to town with the theme too. If you’re going to have characters play Adult Jenga, strip, suck on pacifiers, wear Chinyaa dresses, and do the bloomer ass dance, all in mixed company, then I expect some humorous girl on girl or guy on guy action. I don’t believe that Ieyasu has been traumatized enough yet. Plus, I could easily see Nyaa stealing the kiss and shoving her tongue down either Chise or Fumino’s throats. Regardless of the loss of inertia towards the end though, this was a lot better than the last couple weeks, even if we remain off in some kind of strange parody universe having absolutely nothing to do with the opening month or so of the show.

    No words… No words…
Although, I would like whatever drugs the studio is taking.

  • Chen says:

Stripping and Jenga? Japan has the bestest ideas.

  • Nanaya says:

It’s like someone from the Saki productions ran out of the office screaming “SCREW YOU! I’ll make my own show! With plot, and JENGA, and more fanservice! In fact, forget the plot!”

  • Anise Punter says:

That was much more enjoyable than it had any right being.

Is there a show in here somewhere or should we just wait for the inevitable 2014 remake?

  • Jack Damn says:

This show has lost its soul.

  • ashot01 says:

I like how they’re pretending they don’t have enough material from the novels to fill up 12 episodes.

  • Eleutheria says:

The University of Chicago’s Scavenger Hunt featured Oral Jenga a couple years ago. Not sure if they still do it.
