The Demon King in the Back Row #02 — Bunnies, Puppies, and Heads
April 9th, 2010
Oh my.
Impressions:
Well, this episode was a little bit better, if for no other reason than Korone and Fujiko are at least a hundred or so IQ points above the rest of the cast, even if Korone is easily defeated by tugging on her tail. At least she’s smart enough to tease Sai a little bit and has a curious fascination with penises that I don’t think even Yamada can compete with. Fujiko, meanwhile, would be a little more compelling if there wasn’t a chibi version of her making out with Sai for a minute and a half in the ED. Still, you have to wonder exactly how unhealthy her relationship with her brother’s blind severed head is. At least it talks to her. She’ll probably end up the victim of whatever the drug that she gave him actually does and trying to get Sai into some kind of freaky threeway between herself, him, and her brother’s head. That’d be one for the record books.
Not too much else this week otherwise though. Just those character introductions, some dumb exposition on the nature of magic, and Dumbledore drops Korone into Sai’s lap as his permanent chaperone before they go off to fight a mana infected puppy. It is a little interesting that they’re mixing up the formula and having Sai remember Kena but she’s clueless about him, but I’m not yet convinced that they’re actually going to go anywhere intelligent with it. After Himari’s mixed memories last season, I’m really pretty tired of childhood induced amnesia in just about any form.

So exactly what are they trying to censor in those panty shots? The nudity is one thing, those ones actually covers something, but the panty ones… yeah, not much of a point.
I always feel a violent urge whenever amnesia occurs in a show. It’s overused and almost never well done. Makes even less sense if Sai remembers Kena but she doesn’t remember him. Now it’s like she’s clinging to him just because, instead of having an actual reason.
