The Idiot, Tests, and Summoned Beasts #09 — Sisterly Love
March 3rd, 2010
Awww… Yoshii almost did something right.
Impressions:
Aha. The extra long shot on Hazuki in the OP finally sort of makes sense. It was a placeholder because they were going to toss in Yoshii’s sister there too. Why they waited until now will remain a mystery.
This episode started pretty slow, but Akira had some great jokes in the middle. Her exchange with Hideyoshi was fantastic. There’s no way that Yoshii would be friends with a girl, ergo, Hideyoshi is male… and therefore, so are Minami and Himeji. With the appropriate protest afterwards that all three are girls of course. The ending was also a little overly saccharine for my tastes, and they foreshadowed the whole cooking thing a bit overly much by having Akira’s hand literally wrapped in bandaids, but it was nice enough, and I always appreciate it when shows cut out the OP or ED to give us more actual show, so kudos to that.
Like I said, after the first five minutes or so and they brought the rest of the cast in to supplement Akira’s one woman monologue, with Yoshii shrieking in the background, things picked up a lot. Since the overly friendly Akira was all about Yoshii’s feminine relations, that was pretty much the focus of the episode. Himeji’s hunter-killer mode was worth a few laughs, as was her and Minami’s attempt to fit into Yoshii’s "big boobs and a pony tail" fetish. The giant poofy ponytail really doesn’t work at all for Himeji though. Although… maybe a nice big bun… Adding Kubo to the group of spurned lovers was also a very wise choice. Still doesn’t make up for the missed jokes last week, but he belongs in every circle of girls lamenting Yoshii not paying attention to them.
