A Certain Worthless Sidekick #17 — Gekisho 9

January 29th, 2010

The Gekisho series started going downhill after 4.

Impressions:

Awesome. I was just saying the other day that this show was way too focused on developing the main characters and all the powers and interesting parts of the show, so it could really use a slowdown episode focusing on a character that nobody cares about. And what better person than Tsuzuri, the inept, eternally cowering Anti-Skill whose only role is to show up in her adorable little SWAT vest and prove that Anti-Skill has absolutely no military training whatsoever. But that’s okay. She learns how to be a manly man by playing an arcade game that looks like it predated Killer Instinct. So much for being technologically advanced.

Remember when Index tossed in random filler episodes? They had people using ancient Aztec spears and dropping buildings on each other. Plus uncomfortably Freudian commentary on Touma’s meat. I miss the Index filler. Maybe it’s just the curse of this series that you will never see the titular character do a damn thing. And meanwhile, next week they seem to be introducing yet another new character. Or maybe I’ve just forgotten them. Does it really matter at this point?

…..!? N,no way! That lady in the preview is the DEMONIC Tokiwadai Domitory supervisor!?

  • karasu says:

wasn’t there supposed to be a awesome-mikoto-misaka arc?

  • Karasu, either they’ve decided not to do it entirely, or else they’re going to do it last thing. It really couldn’t be long enough to go from here all the way to the end of the series, and anything that happened after it would be anticlimax.

I do hope they are going to do it, though. If they leave it out entirely, it’ll be a huge letdown.

    • I’m quite certain they’re going to skip it entirely, at least this season, and it’s either because a) they want to save something for the sequel, or b) they’re eliminating any content that overlaps with material presented already in Index. I actually tend to think it may be more the latter than the former, because they also eliminated a lot of overlap points from earlier portions of the story. But who knows… only time will tell for sure. Either way, I think there aren’t enough episodes left in this 24-episode season to get it done.

      • The Railgun manga does cover the Sisters arc. I don’t see it as being a duplication; Index just showed one small part (albeit an important one) of the whole story. It left a lot of things unanswered.

For instance, why was it that the program was terminated after Accelerator got defeated by Toumo? Why should that have made any difference?

      • Nanaya says:

They didn’t explain it directly (seriously, the ONE cause and effect situation in the series that wasn’t given with the subtlety of a flying brick), but you can figure parts of it out.

Their test subject was taken down by a technically-powerless nobody and the supercomputer satellite that made all the city’s decisions (and it had been established that the plan was completely reliant on it’s predictions) had been destroyed a while ago, meaning no new predictions, meaning they were now entirely in the dark over what might happen. That and some other stuff, like the ethical issues or Mikoto wiping out the bases, was probably what tipped the scales and ended it.

sad part is, that the index filler with random aztec spears and what not was actually part of the story and not filler at all.

“Remember when Index tossed in random filler episodes? They had people using ancient Aztec spears and dropping buildings on each other”
Excuse me Aroduc, but that episode was based in the first part of the volume 5 of the light novels.
The aztec mage is an important support character for the science side next with Accelerator and his GROUP.
    Index has no fillers.
    @awesome-mikoto-misaka<——- lol

  • Tensho says:

You all should stop whining. Remember Index has 19 vol of novels as a base and this only has like 4 and 1/2 volume right now as manga. Railgun was created just for the sake of Mikoto’s fans so it’s nothing too bad if they decide to focus on side charas’ background.

  • Yue says:

Expect a new anime or manga spin~off titled, “To Aru Sugoi no Accelerator”. Featuring 10,000 semi~diiferent ways to pwn Misaka sisters.

    Ha~ ha~ ha~ err.. wait, that doesn’t sound right.

    Ku~ ka~ ku~ ka~ ka~ ku~ ku~ ku~ yep, that’s better. ^_~

  • Wilfriback says:

A certain Psycho Albino would be better n_ñU.

  • sage says:

    >implying that a showed named that would actually follow Accelerator’s story instead of making him a secondary character

    • Yue says:

Ummm, yeah. Since the trend is always a damsel on the title, I can’t think of how Accelerator can (theoretically) have his own show like Touma had.

Last Order is the first gal that came up in mind (To Aru Moe~moe no Last Order). But I withdrew that since she’s the most annoying Misaka clone. ^^

But sage’s idea inspired me to think up a better title. (To Aru 20,000 Imouto). It centers on the daily lives of the Sisters and how half of them met their end at the hands of Accelerator.

      [throws up] XD.

  • ark noir says:

In the index universe, mikoto and index are meant to be major love interests in Touma’s harem, how come they come off like imouto characters? Moar Kanzaki plz

    • Leviathan says:

Are they? I think they are no match against the “other girl”(not Kaori).

Btw, the episode wasn’t that bad compared to the previous one.
