A Certain Scientific Railgun #06 — Thought Police

November 6th, 2009

Yawn.

Impressions:

Another fillertastic garbage episode about Mikoto’s first day as a member of Judgment where she learns how hard it really is to be a janitor and the morality police. And she saves a little girl’s bag from getting wet. I mean, hell, can you imagine if she had failed? That bag would have… gotten wet. That would have just been a total disaster. Can you imagine? It’s a good thing that she electrocuted that dog in the middle of a bunch of kids too, not to mention blowing up a lightpole. Ya think detonating things 20 feet from a bunch of kids might be a bad idea? Naaaah.

You can safely skip right to the ED and miss nothing at all but a lot of janky animation and a little foreshadowing about what I assume is the antagonist coming up, who leaves imploding stuffed dolls in random places. That only really showed itself in the first 10 seconds, about 30 seconds in the middle of the episode, and a minute after the ED. At least the bomber took out a Judgment member even if they weren’t targetted particularly. Still not worth sitting through the other 21 minutes, but maybe somebody actually relevant will get blown up next week. Then again, some apparent shut-in bullied internet nerd who leaves bombs in random places isn’t exactly my idea of a particularly compelling antagonist. Even Saten could take him without breaking a sweat.

Preview:

Gee. I wonder who the bomber could be.

Kuroko should wear her hair down more often.

  • Lero says:

And you blamed Index…. this crap is a waste of my precious life man, I wonder if you didn’t dropped this show only beacause Mikoto is your favorite character.
In my case I got tricked in the chapter 2 and 4 by Touma apparitions believing that in this chapter he would to appear :S.

Ok for now Index >>>>>>>Railgun like adaptation sucks.
Meh the director is the same of Toradora =_=… nase?

  • Rewriter says:

    They should’ve made this show 12 episodes… or 18…

  • Wilfriback says:

    Or ovas =_=+

  • Anonymous says:

    Where are Touma?? T^T

  • Anonymous says:

blame the studio for the weird order of the manga chapters

  • longhaul says:

    haters gonna hate

how is this episode fillertastic when it follows the source materiel

    • Shinji103 says:

It’s filler because it’s not part of the plot. There are apparently two definitions of “filler” on the Internet; anime-original episodes, and episodes that don’t follow the plot. This is the latter.

And yeah, this episode bit hard. >.> Definitely one of the manga chapters I was hoping they wouldn skip or at least improve. >.> At least we get to another part of the plot next episode though.

  • arrr says:

Wait, janitor? Whatever happened to those cleaning robots in Index? You know, the ones that even tried to clean up Index herself.

I’m thinking that they decided to put this filler in so the Level Upper arc ends on the 12th episode, or at least I hope so.

    • redlupine says:

that’s exactly what I was thinking when i saw that

same with the vending machines not having alarms when she kicks them… maybe they were new technology that haven’t been put in yet

  • Yue says:

Still, time flows rather fast when watching this show. That still means we’re amused seeing this.

    By the way, nice screenie.

  • Shinji103 says:

And about the creepy guy being the antagonist; he’s not. He’s just a stepping-stone in the plot, leading up to the real antagonist. And trust me, that antagonist will make a great fight. :) In the meantime, we /should/ be getting another good fight episode sometime soon in the future though.

I only say “should” because I’m not the one drawing up the episodes; given JC Staff’s current track record on this series, they’ll most likely abnimate that chapter, and I’m looking forward to it because it’s one of the few moments where one of my favorite characters gets some serious scenes.

  • Vegetarian4Life says:

Actually, I think this anime is great!
Even if it’s just fillers, at least they are focusing on the best characters from Index and there is no more magic crap.
    Railgun >>>>>> Index
and I’m quite sure the plot will pick up later on. JC Staff always manages to do a good job with their anime.

  • Lero says:

Index novels focusses the communication between 2 differents sides in the same world meanwhile railgun is focussed in Mikoto life until the sisters arcs of Index.

  • The Phantom says:

This anime rocks for two reason:

    1. Misaka Mikoto is in it. (best character of the series period)

    2. Index is not in it. (worst and dumbest character in the series period)

Now the only thing I acknowledge this anime is lacking is more Touma x Biribiri. Other than that RAILGUN FTW!!

  • Anonymous says:

Kuruko makes it all worth it.

  • Wilfriback says:

Phantom: Why is she dumb for you?? because she has a more relevant role in the novels instead Mikoto??? hahahaha deal with it since the novels are related more to the magic side with Touma and his magical friends and Accelerator in the science side.

Some things that I like from the novels is that there is no first girl syndromelike the previous series mentioned(for now Touma >/< Mikoto)

Is weird I'm sure that you said in the past that you hated Touma because he was an annoying character, so I assume that you don't want to see Touma, you only want him to made Mikoto more predictable with the tsundere archetype, blushing being dere dere, etc.

BTW, is a question of tastes if you don't like it, guess what?
You can watch only Railgun(I recommend to you not watch To aru majutsu no "Index" season and possible coming season anymore cause you don't like Index character and as advice "she is going to take a major role since the 7th arc" meanwhile Mikoto only have some irrevelavants apparitions like Himegami, you are not going to like that for this reason, you are adviced "The Phantom".
Or see Shana/ZnT/Toradora with more related characters of the same archetype I'm sure that you would like them ;).
