Taisho Baseball Girls #01 — BONESAW
July 2nd, 2009
Yes, I have decided to reference the Clarkson hockey program via a prop in the show.
New Season Disclaimer:
I try to watch at least the first episode of every new show in a season. However, do not expect anything I say to be fair or balanced. I value my own entertainment above all else and there are some genres or methods of presentation that I just plain do not like and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. I’ll attempt to at least make a cursory explaination of what did and did not please me about each show, but it’s just a simple fact of life that my tastes are mine alone. Feel free to express your own opinions in the comments, just keep it under control. This is just television after all.
Impressions:
The show started off… oddly… with the genius tactician, Koumei, singing about how great it was to live in the Taisho era. What followed after that was 20 minutes of mind numbing boredom populated by girls taking enough prozac to floor a cow. The show just went absolutely nowhere, did so with no energy whatsoever, and the characters are about as interesting as a coat of green paint. It also doesn’t help that Zhu Ge Liang there looks all too close to the whiny whiny apple headed Persona 4 brat. Maybe if any of the characters showed the slightest sign of enthusiasm for anything, it could have been more engaging.
JC Staff did their usual decent enough job with the production, although the girls actually managed to out-shine Umineko’s cast. Every single cheek, every single dimple, every single finger joint is luminescient. Absolutely nothing happened except for incessantly chattering heads though, so I wouldn’t call it particularly impressive either. The music’s… decent enough I guess. I was scratching my head about the musical number at the start, but the rest of it was unassumingly average.
If you’re into the whole pastoral "watch girls on prozac do nothing" scene, have at it, I guess. I’ve certainly seen and proceeded to not watch far better than this episode though. I won’t be sticking around to see if they kick the habit.
