Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-chan #06 — Backlash
July 30th, 2009
Zzzzzap.
Impressions:
Well, an episode without bats, urine (outside of the eyecatch at least), or even almost any fanservice whatsoever, but it was so monumentally cliche that I’m not sure I liked it much. Apparently there are rare Zeta class people that generate electric backlash when they get charged which the suits can’t compensate for. Well, they call it ‘counter-current’ (in English), but I’m still trying to figure out a way that even comes close to making any sort of sense. From there, it proceeds exactly as you’d expect. Plug charges the kid anyway, everybody saves her and calls her an idiot with a good heart. I could have scripted this entire episode from the first thirty seconds, complete with notes to use the piano version of the OP for the dramatic scene.
I did think they did a good job with most of the component scenes, but without the humor or any real twists, the episode really felt rather phoned in. I guess the payoff is next week’s maid Arresta giving Plug a spongebath, but… still… meh… There were a couple more teasers about the antagonists in this episode as well, but it probably takes longer to read this sentence than it would to watch their segments. The loli appears to have some kind of depression aura, and there’s some evil grinning dude in the parallel world… like anybody thought Japan would make a show where the central organization wasn’t actually controlled by evil. Ha.
Brief Summary:
The Juudens are warned about a Zeta-class kid who will fry them with backlash if they try to charge him. Plug’s depressed that she can’t help him and starts looking up info on him. Some of her worker friends rib her a little bit, but remind her that she’d be killed if she tried to help. They then hear the news that there’s a new suit being rolled out to gather information on the kid with Arresta as the test subject. Plug tries to beg her to use it to save the kid, but is completely rebuffed.
Plug gets depressed and goes to watch porn at Sento’s. He even holds back from punishing her since she’s so out of it. He does tell her that he likes to get things done as soon as possible, which spurs her into action. She begs and then blackmails Arresta into letting her use the suit to charge the kid while getting the data, but when Arresta checks the suit’s vitals, they discover that the differences between it and a normal suit’s resistance to the backlash is totally negligible. Plug flies off to charge the kid anyway.
She arrives, and plugs into the kid. The backlash almost immediately fries most of her suit, but she hangs on. Arresta tries to get her to let go, but she just keeps repeating "You can do it" over and over again until the charge is fully complete. She falls into the arms of the waiting paramedics and is rushed off. On the way to the ICU, Arresta reports to Plug that the kid’s fully recovered, so she can’t give up now either.

Drama in comedy shows is always a mood killer, yet Japan always feels it necessary.
