Tears to Tiara #11 — Little Kids in Morgan’s Crotch

June 14th, 2009

That so cannot smell good.

Impressions:

I thought this was actually a really weak episode capped off with a fight that for this show, was frankly almost embarrassing. Animation was stilted and jerky, they strangely decided to use a ton of motion blur in place of actual motion, and the fight was just plain short. Oh, and it turns out that Lydia was the one that started their whole feud in the first place by swinging for Octavia’s throat during their duel. That prompted a montage of them growing up together in the middle of the fight for some reason. I preferred her when she was just crazy. Lydia’s scouts were also running around in full plate mail once more. At least none of them were hiding in trees this time, but on the other hand, the supposed elite corps that trounced Arthur last time was killed off screen.

As for the other two thirds of the episode… blah blah blah, "Can we trust Octavia? Well, I believe in her, so I will believe in her to the end, and friends save each other! Thudercats, HOOOOOO!" And then little kids get mad at Morgan and shove their faces into her thighs. Ogam probably had the best two moments of the episode, mimicking Morgan’s whining and bringing a total halt to the party, and setting the forest on fire. They’ve really been marginalizing his more comical role in the adaptation for the most part, which makes me a little sad, but it’s nice to see him making jokes every now and then.

At least they’re getting back to the central plot finally. Even if they cut out the somewhat nonsensical Londinium tournament stuff, they’ve still got the Angels, Brigantes, dragons, and I’m sure a ton more that I’ve forgotten to get through.

Preview:

Oh hey, I guess we should get back to the plot, eh?

    so lydia died…

  • DK says:

I hate how they managed to pull off a “Phoenix Wright” in the middle of the Tavia and Lydia fight about their childhood, making up care for the messed-up psychopathic bitch…

    “Aww~ She’s such a crybaby as a child…”

Then Tavia just slits her throat.

    WHAT.

I wonder how many more childhood pasts are they gonna slip us like this…? With as little warning as possible?

  • Zeroblade says:

Indeed, Ogam imitating Morgan and the few seconds of silence that followed was one of the better moments of the show.

  • Avisch says:

Ok. Who wants to bet that the most Tears to Tiara doujinshi made this year will be “Octavia x Morgann”.

….Wow they killed Lydia off fast. How the hell are they gonna keep the show interesting.

  • karuroso says:

So…Riannon will be kidnaped again? >_>

  • Anon says:

Is it just me or is Octavia still not Arawn’s wife? I wonder if she ever will be now… or will they end up pairing her with Arthur or Morgan or something XD. Since she really hasn’t had much contact with Arawn.

  • X says:

@Anon, same here, I dont think they will make Octavia pair up with Arawn or be his wife, since that should’ve happened in the previous episode or at least this episode, but since in the game it happened earlier on. Theyre probably just going to keep Arawn’s harem to just Riannon, Morgan, and Llyr. Man that sucks, his harem got reduced. lol

  • Anon says:

Ah right I forgot that the mining elf also didn’t become a wife. Guess they’re just sticking to the women you mentioned, not like it matters since Llyr and mining elf are pretty much wall flowers at this point.

I actually really liked this episode. It was very cheesy and…I didn’t understand the flashbacks, but it was well done. Anyway with the other offerings this season it comes across as fantastic.

  • Gael says:

I have enjoyed every episode so far. I’ve never played the episode so maybe that’s why i’m not disappointed like everyone else. But, as it stands, I think this series has been highly enjoyable. Taking each character at face value, I’ve grown to like them all: Rhiannon’s quiet, comforting personality, Arthur’s brash, youthful and couragious love for his people, Morgan’s carefree nature, Arawan’s apathetic demeanor overcasting his more caring side, Octavia’s rigid moral and noble sense of justice. These platitudes, as they are seen by others, are enriching to me. Sure, they may be cliche, but what can I say; even if it’s a broken record at it’s foundation, the cosmetic creativity on the surface always keeps me jumping for more.

I figured Lydia’s death needed to happen, especially if she comes to terms with her own flaws. I can’t say I liked Lydia that much. I thought she was interesting when they first showed her, and the way she commanded her troops in the first battle gave me the impression she was a level headed leader; one that would force arthur to think more carefully and strategically before fighting the way he normally does. But once they revealed her connection with Octavia, all that stability fell apart and ever since that point, she made reckless, mistakes and she became overconfident and arrogant. At that point, her greatest advantage was out the door and it only went downhill from there for her.

I did find it strange that her crimson guards also seemed to suffer a depowering after the first encounter. I would have liked to see some improvement on Gael’s side if they were going to fight the crimson guards again. Nevertheless, the question of Octavia’s loyalty was a very important step in the series I thought. It helped to ground trust into the Gael tribe and those close to her; her metal needed to be tested in that way and so I completely understand the import of having such an episode. I also can appreciate that it was Morgan who was the vehicle for the greatest suspicion since she was Octavia’s first friend from the tribe. If Morgan can go through extremes in here trust of her and come out feeling more confident about Octavia’s loyalty to them, then, by default, She becomes the architype for all the protagonists suspicions, pooled into one. It will be interesting to see where the series goes after this episode. Until then, I look forward to the next!
