Tears to Tiara #05 — Angry Drunks
May 3rd, 2009
Murderous even.
Impressions:
Actually a pretty dull episode. Things kept happening, but none of it really meant anything or led anywhere. The first half was mostly concerned with Taleisin showing up, playing a song, warning them about the Brigantes, and then wandering off again, while the second half was the first (unsuccessful) raid on Londinium. They’re really not making any illusions about the mayor being evil in this version. Either that, or his has an obsessive compulsion to madly cackle that he really needs to see a therapist about. Then again, if security at Londinium is so lax as to let four people in matching cloaks from Inconspicuous R Us and one elder dragon sage who is world famous traipse around, they probably deserve to have a cackling evil wizard leading them. Morgan’s drunken attempts at murder were probably the high point of the episode.
Oddly, for spending a minute or two on listening to Taleisin, I thought the music in this episode was awful. Taleisin’s little harp was fine, but whoever dug up the reed flutes that they were so enamored with should be shot. They’ve used the super dramatic overture before too, but here, nothing was going on except a bunch of horses running around at night. Thrilling. It also doesn’t help that I know Llyr, RULER OF THE PLANET OMICRON PERSEI VIII, is only slightly less intelligent than your average domesticated cow, so the super mysterious music for her seemed really out of place as well. At least Arawn and Riannon are apparently not going to eat her clothes in this version… hopefully at any rate.
And yes, I know that Llyr’s name is pronounced with a Welsh ‘ll’.

Llyr and Octavia are both showing up in one episode? o_0 Guess they’re making up for the lack of new wives in the last two episodes.
