Pani Poni Dash! OVA — Dai Maho!
April 15th, 2009
Hardcore Kick the Can.
Oh right, I totally forgot that this existed.
Impressions:
I’m not even really sure what to say here. I mean… it’s Pani Poni Dash. It doesn’t make a ton of sense no matter how you cut it. It’s nice to see the franchise still living since I really think that it’s probably Shaft’s finest comedy to date. I’m rather sad that we just got Yellow Vacation as an OP though. After a couple years, some crazy new OP would have been nice. I was also a bit disappointed at how many styles and tricks they back-recycled from Zetsubou Sensei into the show. I don’t even want to talk about the bloody yukkuri showing up everywhere either. I glared at the screen a little bit when Becky started cosplaying Strike Witches too, just so we’re perfectly clear. There were the usual buttload of references, but usually they’re more esoteric than just having Akikan characters or Potemayo wandering around on screen.
Overall though, especially with all the half-assed OVAs lately, it was very nice to see Shaft put the proper effort into this one. It looked even better than I remembered it and there was certainly no shortage of good movement selling all the sight gags that the show thrives on. I think the girls’ thighs have somehow gotten even meatier over the years too. Kurumi’s always been pretty thick in the thighs, but everybody this episode looked like they were packing. Shaft is starting to reach JCStaff levels of obsession with thighs. I was glad that the aliens got even weirder in the interim as well.
As always, there wasn’t nearly enough Shiratori for my tastes. She is so the best girl and I’ll cut anybody who says otherwise. Serizawa’s a close second, just for the record. I did enjoy the Cherry Petal 3 Kingdoms shot on the side when she was hunting Otome. I really could have done without the Otome cameltoe during the food torture scene. I think I may have nightmares over the lengths they went to draw that.
Okay, I think I’ve rambled aimlessly for long enough now. Maho~
Uh, nothing to summarize really. They played Kick the Can. At the end, Serizawa was disguised as Becky, Becky was disguised as Rei, and then Ichijou (who was on the defense team) kicked the can at the last second to bounce it off the UFO. After the ED (just Moon Light Love), a round of "Ask a Genius Anything."

Kurumi is the best girl.
Sounds like it was good OVA despite some recycled tricks. I would of expected an new OP as well considering how long it’s been. Second season where. Mesousa Love.
