Touhou 12: Undefined Fantastic Object Trial

March 8th, 2009

No, I haven’t played it yet. Yes, I have a migraine at the moment so will not get around to it (or ZKC) until tomorrow. Losing an hour of sleep to DST probably won’t help my brain either. The mysterious UFOs in the lower right corner are the new scoring gimmick. You collect them, and spawn a UFO (type/what it does depends on colors collected), then they spawn a big UFO in the middle of the screen. When its life is reduced to zero, it explodes like a small bomb with a score multiplier attached to all the bullets it cancels. It also appears to be significantly less difficult than the last two iterations, at least on Normal. It’s always the Stage 4 boss that’s nasty as all get out though.

    DL fucking where???

I’d say this one is actually a bit harder than SA, or at least on the same level (there is one SC where having a spread-shot chara is almost necessary, and Tatara’s last SC is downright evil). On Normal, at least, that is. On Hard it seems actually a lot harder, although I’ll admit I didn’t play SA on Hard long enough to compare them.

However, the way the game gives you new lives, means you can advance relatively fearlessly, at least on Normal (on Hard, there are too many bullets to properly choose the right UFOs).

On Normal, farming lives is easy (at least in these first three stages), so if you get lucky with the red UFOs, you could theoretically have nine lives at the third boss. That’s quite cool. Of course, by doing so you won’t get the multiplied points you’d get by choosing blue UFOs, or the bombs of green UFOs. So you can choose whether to go for points or for survival. That’s an interesting way of letting you choose how to play.

And to add to that post, stage 3 spell cards are awesome, that at one point, it lagged my screen, ON EASY.

Stage 3’s last spell card is kinda unfair.
    Also, Sanae is too unbalanced
