Those noses cannot be right.

Impressions:

I’ll admit that it’s been quite a while since I watched any Detective Conan, but I don’t remember anybody’s nose being broken so badly that it points towards the ceiling. Horie Yui voicing Princess Myra (Mirrah? Whatever) was a pleasant surprise, and she can now check off both Lupin and Conan as shows that she’s had a starring role in. Good job, Hocchan. Unfortunately, the Prince and the Pauper plot device between Ran and Myra was pretty lame, even for Conan. I held the vain hope that they’d at least do something creative with it, but nada… At least Horie got to strip Ran and then apparently sleep naked next to Fujiko.  

Unfortunately for Lupin fans, this was about 80% Conan and 20% Lupin, even less if you’re just counting sequences with the man himself instead of Fujiko or Jigen. I had also been hoping for something quite a bit different than what we ended up getting. Conan and Lupin barely interacted at all, and Lupin’s plan to steal Myra’s jewels (*ahem*) was pretty much completely marginalized for the Conan murder plot around Myra’s family. Despite the front billing, this was very much a Conan story with Lupin’s gang very much just being a relatively trivial sideplot tossed in mostly during the last 20 minutes.

It wasn’t that bad, but it was pretty underwhelming as a Lupin story. Maybe Conan fans will enjoy it a lot more, but it just lacked a lot of that Lupin wit and charm. *shrug*
