Fighting Spirit: New Challenger #01 — What Am I Even Doing?

January 6th, 2009

Posting for the sake of posting, apparently.

New Season Disclaimer:

I’ll make a post for almost all new series (barring sequels) with a wrap-up and bullet point opinion of each once the premier week is over. Remember that these are just my kneejerk reactions to the first 20 minutes of shows, many of which in genres that I don’t even particularly like, but I do believe in giving every new series at least an episode to at least try and hook me.

Impressions:

So, considering that I haven’t watched the first 60 or so episodes of this one, am not familiar with the comic, and don’t particularly like sports or endless teen stuff anyway, that makes me about as qualified to talk about this as I am to discuss the mating habits of the Gambian Pouch Rat. Nevertheless, I assume some people would want to see some caps or the OP or such. It really didn’t try to sell itself to an outsider like me by giving character reintroductions or the like either. There were a ton of flashbacks, but they covered more of the plot than anything to do with any of the characters really.

At any rate, have fun. Peace out.

Cheers for the caps. You think you’ll continue to cover it?

  • Angelssin says:

You should really pick up the first series and start watching it. I’m not keen on sports anime in general either. I tried getting into Eyeshield 21 but just couldn’t and I didn’t even want to go near Prince of Tennis. But I tried Hajime no Ippo, and found it to be a real treat. It’s full of great moments and keeps you wanting more (which is why I’m glad there’s a new season). It’s worth at least giving it a try, who knows? it might surprise you.

  • Aroduc says:

Nah, I’m good. I don’t deal particularly well with shows above and beyond about 39 episodes, especially those that make claims at having some kind of overarching never ending plot.

Manny Pacquiao should fight Ippo Makunochi… wait, scratch that.

    /agree with Angelssin

and the best Anime serie imo and if you like sports/martial arts there is no better anime period

  • Mei says:

Only sorta-implied funny BL is not enough for me to take a sport series, at least if there is some implied sexual tension between some characters, then I’m sold.

  • SOSAnimeBoy says:

There’s definitely the sort of tension you are referring to, but it’s like an episode every dozen or two in the first season. There’s definitely more romantic tussling due our way if this new season is going to last as long as the first.
