Black God #02 — Way to Suck and Die

January 16th, 2009

You’re even more useless than Yuuji.

Impressions:

I don’t know, I’m just not feeling this show. It’s probably because they spent almost 3 of the first 5 minutes on flashbacks to the previous episode. This is the second episode, is the budget really that stretched already? At least for all its ridiculous exposition, Index keeps moving forward. At the pace of a sloth trying to climb out of a well, but at least it beats spending most of the start of the episode recapping the previous episode. Sadly, from there, we just moved on to more exposition about the doppeliners, complete with helpful naked woman percentages in case you needed a visual aid.

We eventually come to the draw of the series, the action. Unfortunately, despite adding a villain with super power, the fight was a massive step down. He just waved his arms and posed like he had escaped from the Metropolitan Ballet and Kuro got knocked around. She only actually landed two (arguably three) hits in the entire 5 minute or so sequence. Keita also kept right along sucking by just standing there and getting his heart blown out. Even after his power up, he just watched the fight and looked scared. Way to go.

I’ll stick around for at least one more episode, but I’m honestly not enjoying this overall. I detest Keita with a passion and Kuro’s not too much better. If there were a larger cast to take some of the focus away from them, or Keita did something being looking sad and dying, I might get more interested, but with the production already taking a massive hit in the second episode, I’m really not too hopeful for the future. I’ll give it one more episode, but the 3 minutes of interesting action do not make up for the 17 minutes of absolute sucking.

it’s too bad. I really love the manga (manhwa?) artist, they just seem to bastardize his style and the anime’s tone just seems so off from the original’s, going from generic shounen to Shana-wannabe-clone-with-better-fighting-animation-but-crappy-everything-else. The characters suck balls here too.

You’ll discover that the main male character is TOTALLY and UTTERLY useless. At least Yuuji becomes cool in volume 16+ of the novels. Here, the guy just keep on sucking >_<

This happens all too often in anime. I dont understand why they cant have an awesome solo female lead, or just make the male lead less useless.

Seems to me that you haven’t read the recent new chapters where he fought with his thousand (a ring that Excel gave him).

While watching this show, I always have to wonder….Is Kuro wearing any pants under that jacket?

    It’s quite distracting.

No, she is not even wearing any underwear.

Thanks, now that that’s all cleared up, I can watch in peace.

  • Yue says:

Give her a sword and I’ll call her Shana. What’s under her jacket anyways?

If your keep on watching this series, he will become much cooler later. Initially he is quite useless but once he start training and acquired the one of the special rings, he becomes much much better.

The last volume of the manga was pretty cool but we don’t even know if the anime will go that far :/

  • Irie says:

Evenutally the lead does power up and takes care of business. It takes a pretty long time for him to reach that stage. There will be a larger supporting cast but much of this story revolves around the loss of Yuugi’s mom. He’s very much emo for most of the story. Should be getting some nice fight scenes next episode.

i’m also kinda upset with the course this anime is taking…

the manga IS WAY BETTER and i hate it that they made Keita all nice soft and antisocial and turned him into a student, they’re also cutting out so many chunks of the manga and the fight with that guy has almost nothing to do with the manga and wtf why didn’t his arm got ripped apart?

blaaaargh the manga is better period.
