A Certain Magical Index #17 — Batting Practice
January 29th, 2009
Swing for the fences.
Impressions:
Well, that was anticlimatic. Apparently the whole thing was just some big accident ignorantly set in motion by Touma’s father, so Misha (the real Angel Fall) played baseball with Kaori while Maika beat up the Kamijos before ‘sacrificing’ himself to cast the spell destroying it. Then, in the obligatory hospital scene, he admits he lies all the time. At least the forced drama only lasted about a minute and a half.
Well, at least there was some nice action, so it didn’t feel like it dragged as much as some episodes did. The Kaori/Misha stuff was a little bit silly though. Misha literally hovered there motionless and tossed crystals for Kaori to cut, and it went on for about 90 seconds. Neither really tried to move forward or run away, or do anything but keep up with their batting practice. Well… Kaori did blather on for awhile, but it wasn’t anything particularly important. I think that she (like most characters in this show) just likes hearing the sound of her own voice. The other fight was between Maika and Touma over magicking up dear old daddy for causing this whole disaster, and it just goes to show that Touma’s kind of incompetent against anybody who actually knows how to fight. After all the other more flashy stuff though, it seemed a bit too understated to really be a particularly convincing end-fight for this arc.
Ah yes, and I hate the new OP.

If there’s anything I would like to happen, it will be an “Index versus Misha” cat~fight!!
Btw, is that Index in the preview? She looks mature. ^_~
