ToraDora! #06 — Healing Through Violence

November 5th, 2008

If only Ami had a beam cannon, I might have liked this more.

Impressions:

It’s really hard to get excited over such a formulaic and predictable episode. It definitely peaked in the opening scene and from the moment the stalker appeared, they didn’t really do anything particularly creative or unexpected for the remaining 18 some odd minutes. Minori and Taiga’s trash outfits were about as close as it came to anything particularly humorous, and Ami learned to be herself in order to physically assault the paparazzi. I’m pretty sure that’s illegal anyway, so another future felon in the making.

I was also pretty disappointed with how little Ryuuji actually did this episode. He seemed to be there just so that Ami wasn’t having a monologue. He didn’t try to scare away the stalker with his evil eyes (though honestly, I think that’s because the writers have forgotten about that particular plot point), he didn’t support her, he… threw a frog off her and then said "hey, cut it out," which she promptly ignored until Taiga healed her through the power of second degree assault. The end of the episode also seemed a little odd and forced, but given that the preview shows almost nothing but swimsuits, apparently this gets resolved or ignored pretty quickly.

Preview:

Boobs.

“He didn’t try to scare away the stalker with his evil eyes”
He tried doing this in the novel and result was pitiful

Rushed right through Volume 2 of the novel… and yes, Sterling01, yes it was. Now where’s the part where Kitamura was supposed to help with Taiga because the latter tripped into a ditch?

… damn it, this was a good point to use Kitamura and they didn’t. And, unfortunately for Ami, Ryuuji’s bombshell of a mother hangs around the house half naked all the time, so he’s a tad more immune to THAT particular form of attack than she might expect.
