Kemeko Deluxe! #05 — Date With Disaster
November 1st, 2008
Unfortunately, I’m included.
Impressions:
Ugh. I know there aren’t too many other bloggers paying attention to this one, but I’m not sure that I can take any more of it. At this point, it’s really shown itself to be a one trick pony and I’m totally sick of that trick at this point. Not even the addition of gradients to the OP’s background can change my mind. Talk about a nonsensical and trivial change to make a month in. Wait, no… they also added some fireworks to the title card. That gives it pizazz.
They also ramped up the nonsensical drama quite a bit this episode, with only a brief appearance by Hayasaka, which probably contributed to my patience running out here. Sanpeita didn’t even learn that her name was MM until this episode. I’m not even certain that he knows the name of the girl he’s lusting after either. For the record, she does have different color eyes than MM, but who’s keeping track? I’m not even sure dropping the bad drama would help the show that much because most of the comedy is so predictible and the same damn jokes we’ve been seeing since the first episode. The Izumi portions have seriously gone from tiresome to painful, and Sanpeita has yet to do anything funny or interesting for the entire show. That leaves everything on Kemeko/MM’s shoulders and she can’t do much of anything except hit things, which only works for so long as comedy. Even the Three Stooges had a method and creativity to their slapstick.
I’m not writing off on it for good, but don’t count on me to say much of anything on it any more.
