Absolutely Lovely Children #35 — Hatsune vs NARWHALS

November 30th, 2008

Yeah, I bet you think I’m joking.

Impressions:

Well, I’m not really certain what forced me to actually looking up narwhals, but I sort of wish that I hadn’t. I can only imagine that poor narwhal’s pain.

Not a particularly entertaining episode because I really don’t like The Hound’s new handler, Keiko Kozika and her intro story was about as cliche as you can get. Hell, they even made jokes about Keiko wanting to befriend Hatsune like people befriend animals in anime, but then that’s pretty much exactly what they did, only with an additional fight against what could be loosely classified as a whale phallus. Minamoto et all were basically just along for the ride and really didn’t do a single thing the whole episode. It’s worth noting that Oboro’s weakness is baby seals, but otherwise… meh… rather weak episode. Maybe if Keiko’s antenna twitched more or she cried a bit less… but she’s easily the least confident and most flighty character on the show and didn’t even really show any particular intelligence or abilities to deserve heading up The Hound. Meh.

At least we get a Naomi episode next week, though I really want them to get back to PANDRA.

Ultra-brief Summary:

Hatsune is jealous of Keiko ‘stealing’ Akira and runs off to join the Children instead. BABEL fabricates a team building disaster which goes predictably wrong. Keiko saves Hatsune from a narwhal after trying to eat its kid, and then slaps some sense into Hatsune. They share body heat to prevent the hypothermia from settling in and Keiko starts ignoring Akira to play with Hatsune instead.

It was a Hatsune episode with a dash of Mio and that is more than enough for me.

I think the next episode is an anime original. Let’s see how that goes.

Is it just me or has the show lost momentum these last couple of eps?

  • Aroduc says:

Well, last week wasn’t too bad, but since the Kyosuke vs Fujiko fight, it’s kind of been struggling and has put the whole driving “espers vs humans war” on hold.
