Absolutely Lovely Children #31 — Not Suitable for US Broadcast
November 2nd, 2008
The rare PG-13 ZKC episode.
Impressions:
No, sadly, it’s not for nudity, but rather for all the swearing that Mary and Ken do. Don’t they know that there are children present? A kind of weird episode overall though that was mostly a rehash of the previous Aoi-centric episode only with a psychokinetic ink specialist instead of some random missles. It also introduced her relatively boring and normal family. She has an overprotective father and younger brother, but otherwise, there’s not too much to say about them. Ken was a little more managable this time since he’s more silly and crazy an less infuriating all around than Mary’s awful accent. Putting the two of them together just makes things resonate and reach ear splitting levels. Here, he was just the lamest of the lame and clueless Japanophiles, although I did get a cheap laugh out of him taking off his shoes to get on the train and his declaration that Aoi was "Oh! JapaNESE tsunDERE!"
Otherwise, not a whole ton to say. Ol’ Clyde (not his real name, he and his ink woman just called themselves Bonnie and Clyde throughout) wasn’t recruited for PANDRA yet, though the eyecatch did show him as part of the group, so I doubt this is the last we’ll see of him. Kyosuke was too busy playing a Gamecube and getting his tail handed to him by Momo in Columns to go recruit him. Next week looks like it’ll be a rare Minamoto-free episode centering around Shiho and Sakaki, probably taking place at the same time as this one.
Preview:
Meanwhile, Sakaki introduces Shiho to a half dead naked man on a table.
