Yozakura Quartet #03 — Rocket Dog DX

October 16th, 2008

Hide the women and children.

I haven’t given up on Casshern yet, but this week was exactly the angst filled melodrama replacing action that I had hoped the series would avoid. Let me sum it up:
Casshern: I kill freakin’ everything.
Human: Nah, you’re a pretty alright dude.
Casshern: Friender! I will accept all your hatred!
Human: See, told you that you weren’t the harbinger of death. –jumps off cliff to his own death–

Next week looks far far better though.

Impressions:

What an extraordinarily silly episode. I think the rocket dog was probably the worst part, though when Kyosuke backhanded Rocket Silver DX, I had to rewind just to make sure that my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me. I’m just glad that the team really didn’t have issues fighting the berserk Silver, aside from moral ones. I don’t think the city would be able to survive if its guardians couldn’t take down a super speedy 40 pound rocket pembroke. The souped up version might have given them problems, but luckily, it just sat there the entire time Hime was beating on it, and didn’t even move when Akina went to finish him off.

The whole tone of this episode was pretty silly though, and a vast departure from the second episode, though I do think they overcompensated for all the previous angst. Most of the first half was pretty much light comedy, from Hime getting tangled in her scarf while training, to her imagining riding her new dog friend, Silver, on patrol, to dog girl Ao being scared of the dog. The second half is where the silliness came from the rather bizarre writing. Hime actually slapped Silver as if he had slipped her some tongue on the first date, complete with the flesh on flesh sound. Somebody needs to remind Nomad that dog faces are covered in fur, are mostly bone, and not at all the kind of surface that would generate that noise.

Overall, not a particularly strong episode. I chuckled a few times through it, but rarely for the right reasons. I’m glad that it looks like things are getting a little more serious and focused next episode now that dogboy is in the city, though I still wonder how evil he really is, given all the nuzzling he and Ao do in the OP. Then again, that is pretty determined nuzzling.

    Er, indeed. Brain fart.

So, does the nun use a jackhammer as a weapon?

  • Ray P. says:

Ahahaha lord, she really does wear that sentai scarf all the time. Awesome! Hime forever.

A question? Somebody knows the name of the group or artist how sing some rock songs once in a while since episode one. I really like it.

  • Dana says:

Do we even know he is a dogboy, given he and Aoi’s similarity and interaction with today’s feature canine. (Well I guess he acts like a dog in the op)
