ToraDora! #05 — Words of Wisdom From Totali

‘Wisdom’ is probably pushing it.

<Aroduc> Good god.
<Totali> MINORI RADAR
<Aroduc> If Ami says "iya da" one more time.
<Aroduc> I’m going to hit someone.
<Aroduc> And the only thing nearby are my dogs.
<Totali> MINORI DOKURO FACE
<Aroduc> And I really don’t want to beat my dogs.
<Totali> GIANT FISH
<Aroduc> I don’t think we’re on the same wavelength here.
<Totali> or are we~
<Aroduc> No?
<Totali> :(

Also, I love how the better raw comes out the moment I start writing. That’ll teach me to run errands. Oh well. Too late now!

And then of course… the entire domain crashed when I was 75% of the way through uploading images, delaying this by another hour. :headdesk:

Impressions:

I guess it was a decent episode, but the problem is that I already hate Ami something fierce, and I don’t think any amount of time or development into her backstory as to why she’s such a cloying little shrew would change that. Maybe if she didn’t respond to everything by squealing like a stuck pig, I might have a little more sympathy for her, or if they played up her bitchiness as a bit more comedically evil. Hmmm… then we could throw in the falling safe, drop it on her, and call it a day. I also really don’t like the dynamic between her and Taiga yet either. Taiga just sits there and ignores her/takes the abuse, which is so far and away from her relationship with every other character thus far so it feels rather unnatural. At least everybody important knows that Ami is a raging bitch so we probably won’t be getting any weird mini-arcs on her stirring up trouble like that.

Minori probably stole the show here for being completely off in left field again. I particularly enjoyed her standing up in class and giving Ryuuji a huge ‘X.’ Her head mounted Minori-Radar was also worth at least a smile, though I’m not willing to give it too much more than that. Sadly Happily this was the first episode without the creepy parakeet. I suspect that Ami ate it.

    Well, nice to see they got Ami right, with regards to what the audience’s first impression should be of her. Of course, now I expect a few clips of that Taiga SLAPPU to be set to ‘Smack that Bitch Up’ or something… and now, if they show Taiga doing her proper revenge (you’ll see what I mean), then I’ll be happy.

    Fun part is, Minorin joins in that…

    She [Ami] does look like Kaname Chidori from FMP. If there’s any character is worth adding in the scene of “misunderstandings” then it would be someone extremely “vain”.

    Being a bitch and being slapped is quite harsh in my perspective. ~_~

    The Minori X scene is one of those “triumph of the animation” moments, as in something that’s expressed best in no other media than anime and only in anime.

    The note Ryuugi passed to Minori is also pretty awesome, dispelling misunderstanding by asking a rhetorically question all the while tearing away Ami’s mask.
