ToraDora! #02 — Dog Has Evolved to Dragon

October 8th, 2008

I don’t think it works like that.

Impressions:

I still haven’t decided between this and Casshern on Wednesdays… so… *shrug*

ROBBLE ROBBLE ROBBLE THEY CHANGED THINGS FROM THE MANGA/NOVELS. Ha! Joke’s on you. I haven’t read either. Score one point for Aroduc. Ding!

Taiga and Ryuuji continue to be the stars of the show. Other than some random and minor physical abuse, neither is particularly antagonistic towards the other, and they really are going out of their way to be friends. It’s hard to hate characters who know blame themselves or the situation instead and beat up lamp posts instead of lashing out at their friends and creating relationship loops that normally consume entire episodes. Both Minorin and Kitomura are far too thickheaded to have quite the same appeal. While Taiga was doing everything from showing everything from venting frustration at how people looked at her to triyng to help Ryuuji’s imagine, and he comforting and trying to support her, Minorin and Kitamura were just one dimensional oafs. Hopefully they get a little more depth in future episodes, because at the moment, they’re bordering on Tenma-level relationship incompetence. Neither of them have shown me that they deserve Taiga or Ryuuji’s advances.

No summary this week. In a rare game 7 upset, Totali beat me to it because I was out doing Aroduc stuff for most of the day. Just go bother him if for some reason you can’t follow the relatively minimal Japanese in this episode.

Oh, and the OP is kind of irritating too.

Preview:

Minorin episode apparently.

  • Totali says:

    Score one for the Totalster!

    Don’t hate on Minorin.

  • Zan says:

Wow. Looks like they’ve finished the first volume with this. Next episode looks a bit like filler. Also, the third girl might get intro’ed next episode, but I’ll bet that won’t happen.

  • Haesslich says:

They’ve rushed through Volume 1. Looks like I’ll have to wait for the subs to see what got chopped out, and what didn’t.

  • FF says:

It took volume 4 and 5 to do it, but Minorin lapped Ami once and Taiga twice to become my favourite character from the novels.

And it took the spin off volume to do it, but Kitamura became a favourite character too after we find out way more about him and his thoughts there.

Ugh, this is going way too fast. At this rate there’s a fair chance that they’ll end this series with either the end of volume 5, which would be a absolutely FABULOUS place to end a series, or the end of volume 4, which would be a pretty good place too. It would be tragic if they ended with volume 3, one of the weaker parts of the novel.

The preview doesn’t give me much hope either, looking likely to be a (original) filler episode. If there’s any more of these fillers, than we can be sure every character except for Ryuuji and Taiga will be shafted, and JC Staff will retain its reputation for being Rapers of Original Material. I’m be happy to be proved wrong, but to be frank I’m not holding my breath for it.

  • Zan says:

Man. If they do filler episodes, they should use the materiel from the spin off. The adventures of Kota amuse me. And he’s voiced by Shiraishi Ryōko. Awesome.

  • Di Gi Kazune says:

I smell shakugan no taiga coming.

  • Anonym says:

The teacher looks like Eita from Shakugan.

  • Riah says:

    …Agreeed. The OP was annoying.

  • […] I definitely agree with this. While Saitou and Yuji were also patient, they didn’t really have the same role as being supportive. I like the ED of this show, the OP, not so much.
