Nodame Cantabile: Paris Chapter #01 — SACRE BLEU!

October 9th, 2008

Mais je te jure que c’est vrai!

Impressions:

Yeah… there’s really no way I’m going to follow this one, it’s not even a matter of liking or disliking, between the broken Japanese, the broken French, and the broken French/Japanese hybridization nonsense, my brain just can’t keep up with this one. It’s bad enough trying to comprehend mistakes in one language, let alone two. On the up side though, it’s more or less the same Nodame as before, complete with CG orchestras and violinist arms moving somewhat out of sync with their elbows. I do find it amusing (in a sort of sad way) that they went all the way to France just to make some otaku jokes and plug chibi-Shana a bit. I guess it sort of works because the guy is being berated for being an otaku anyway and Nodame does learn French from that horrid show she loves, but seeing Shana multiple times was a somewhat unwelcome surprise. Not that I have anything against Shana, it just felt like a really shameless plug.

Next to no music this episode, which was pretty disappointing, and the OP is nowhere near as good as the previous one, but Allegro Cantabile is a pretty tough act to follow in the best of circumstances. Erm… I don’t have too much else to say. Totali says he’s not going to pick it up, despite it so being a Totali show, so I guess probably Omni’s your best bet for this one.

The OP isn’t as good because there’s no SUEMITSU & THE SUEMITH. :P

  • StarmanCyrus says:

Wow, this was like the one show this season I was looking forward to, and it seems to have been fumbled hardcore. :/

  • Aroduc says:

    Starman,
Uh, from my understanding/what others are saying, it’s pretty much word for word identical to the live action adaptation -and- the manga, so…

    Anon,
Seinen means young adult. It’s not a genre.

  • Totali says:

    The new OP sucks!!!!

This is a Garten show IMHO.

  • Anonymous says:

Aroduc, seinen is actually a genre, just like shounen or shoujo. Well, not exactly a genre, but an audience. You know what I mean…

  • Aroduc says:

    They’re demographics, not genres.

  • Sheba says:

This is not really the Paris I know, the one full of pretentious Parisians, pathetic cringeworthy hip-hop icon wannabes, ruthless and heartless tax collectors and hookers.

  • StarmanCyrus says:

I don’t think it was the faithfulness to the manga which made the first series so awesome, and that aside, I’m not really a fan of this arc in the comics either.
