Fist of the North Star: Raoh’s Story #01 — This One’s For Josh

October 3rd, 2008

…Who I don’t think even pays attention to the blog anyway.

New Season Disclaimer:

I’ll make a post for almost all new series (barring sequels) with a wrap-up and bullet point opinion of each once the premier week is over. Remember that these are just my kneejerk reactions to the first 20 minutes of shows, many of which in genres that I don’t even particularly like, but I do believe in giving every new series at least an episode to interest me.

Impressions:

Josh:
"can you feel that trembling in your 3 chambered heart, aro? that is the force of nature that we call Raoh’s Story, broadcasting its manly ki and inviting you to spar with it when it airs. do you accept the invitation, aro? i think you should"

This one goes out to Josh, carrying on the good fight and leading the charge to bring the 80s back… because everything’s better with disco, cocaine, burly men, and pet rocks. I don’t even like any Jump, let alone Jump stuff from over 20 years ago… and this is a sidestory of that. Leave me alone! I didn’t even like the Fist of the North Star NES game!

But really, I lack the background to even be able to understand this, let alone appreciate it. I will say that it looked immensely better all around than one of the more recent Fist of the Blue Sky series that I tried to watch, which is kind of sad unto itself. Like Casshern, this is another one sticking to the old art while also signficantly updating the animation, though not nearly as much of a jump as Casshern. There’s a lot more posing and "you’re already dead" before brains start exploding and such, which I’m sure is exactly what pre-existing fans are in this for. Then everybody talks in gravally voices like this abouthow they’re going to kill each other and are totally the manliest mans.

At any rate, it’s certainly a far far better looking and produced series than the other recent attempts to revive the series, but it would take a magnum opus of a first episode to make me anticipate anything that came from Jump and while it’s certainly a step up from the old series, production values are still maybe only about average compared to other contemporary stuff.

    Wow. Now THAT’s manly.

Yess !! a anime with action for men, and no more ” action girls ” with action for little girls.

  • Kabitzin says:

Do not watch this series within 6 hours of watching Golgo 13. If you accidentally do, call 911 and immediately watch an episode of Hakushaku to Yousei while you wait for medical assistance.

    YES!
