Akane Iro ni Somarusaka #01 — Drugs Are Bad, Mmmmkay?

October 2nd, 2008

Although huffing glue can help you to understand this show.

New Season Disclaimer:

I’ll make a post for almost all new series (barring sequels) with a wrap-up and bullet point opinion of each once the premier week is over. Remember that these are just my kneejerk reactions to the first 20 minutes of shows, many of which in genres that I don’t even particularly like, but I do believe in giving every new series at least an episode to interest me.

Impressions:

Akasaka had a special internet airing yesterday that I was broadly aware of, but with all the other stuff going on, I sort of shelved it and then forgot about it entirely. I’m honestly not entirely sure what to make of it at the end of the first episode. There are about three points where it seems like they’re setting up a joke because nothing could be that overblown, cheesy, and dramatic… and then they just move on. It’s not made abundantly clear what is happening at all, but at the same time, it’s just somewhat casually tossed in as though it should be natural. While this may become a little more transparent later in the show or for people who have at least a passing degree of familiarity with the source game, I felt rather hung out to dry.

Nothing really notable about the art, animation or music for weal or woe. The character design is probably the most sinfully obvious hentai game faire that I’ve seen in a long while. If you shaved every character bald, you’d have enough hair to clothe a flock of technicolor sheep and enough ribbons to hogtie a herd of elephants. The direction was a bit… interesting at times. Special care was taken to be at every single camera angle possible, especially the ones that showed off knees or gave you a look right up to the inner thigh without actually showing a panty. Well, there were also a rather lot of distance shots and shots of scenery because drawing moving mouths is expensive.

Well, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t at least better than Hyakko, but it really didn’t do too much to draw me in… or practically anything at all beyond confusing me a bit, so I doubt I’ll follow this one. Omni or Hinano might be a better bet here. They seem to stomach your average hentai game adaptation better than I can. Both of ’em somehow managed to make it through some 70 odd episodes of Da Capo, though after that much, it’s a wonder that their souls are intact… assuming they are.

this is a h-game to anime??? doesn’t looks like it

  • Hinano says:

Our souls are not so much intact when it comes to shows with idols and giant robots (like Maccross and Gundam00 lol)
I actually attempted to watch this yesterday and I liked the first 10 or so minutes that I saw but the raw was awful and then just sorta stopped playing. I’ll give it another attempt this afternoon, I’ll most likely be following this

If you don’t believe Aroduc, you can ask your dad.

    *eats cheesy poofs*

  • MikeW says:

Yeah, this is based on an H-game. However, some fans suggest that this might be more of an anime-original comedy rather than a strict adaptation. The producers heavily promoted the comical element (while downplaying romance), which is quite different from the tone established by the game, so I guess they’re aiming for a different set of fans.

  • […] Aroduc had predicted, I am picking this show up. I probably would have enjoyed it more if the video […]

I don’t see Sai in there. WHERE’S SAI!?

  • Hibiki says:

Amongst the voices, I can hear Louise/Shana, Kaoru, Saburo. Seems they use a lot of well knows seiyuus

Their hair absolutely boggles my mind. I don’t know how much hair gel you’d actually need to pull of that floating hair. Or how someone actually manage to have perfectly straight hair with random strands poking out symmetrically like whiskers.
