Absolutely Lovely Children #30 — Angel or Satan
October 25th, 2008
Plus a delicious boss fight!
Impressions:
An absolutely spectacular episode all around. The first 18 minutes or so was basically just wacky comedy with the girls being their greedy little impish selves the entire time, along with all the fun and laughs that both Mio and Muscle Okama bring. That alone would have made this an excellent episode. The night cap at the end of it, however, was Fujiko throwing down with Kyosuke, just like I wished for last episode. The two were very evenly matched, as expected, though Fujiko came out on top because Kyosuke’s heart gave out, which I’m sure will be probed in more depth at a future time. She also did a great job of dropping some good foreshadowing on why Kyosuke’s carrying a grudge against specifically Minamoto and; namely that the situation is similar to one of their past. We also finally learn/confirm that Fujiko is indeed Kyosuke’s sister.
Like I said though, hilarity through the first 80% minutes, ending with an awesome fight. Other than the last couple minutes and the Children getting a new kind of limiter that lets them pool and boost their power, there really wasn’t too much going on in the way of plot development. We got to see the cheesy official indicator of whether the Children are becoming angels or Satan. Yes, Satan. Not devils, the supreme lord of devils. It could be worse, they could have the potential to turn into Mara (NSFW!). Oh well, they’ve actually been pretty good with the Engrish so far in the show. One "Does ‘The Children" become an angel in the future of become a satan?" can be forgiven I suppose.
Next week is another Aoi solo mission with Minamoto, this time joined by Ken. It’s been awhile since we saw those crazy foreigners. I want to see how they handle Fujiko.
Brief Summary:
The Chief poses with the new limiter contraption as Fujiko shows Minamoto the Devil/Angel indicator measuring the Children’s future. After that, he gives them their new limiters and they’re off to their next job… in the safe at a huge bank. The Children play around for a little bit before the pres turns on the ECM and brings it all to a halt. Minamoto thinks that just ECM isn’t enough though, and right on cue, Muscle Okama and Mio break into the bank with their own ECCM. After a brief fight, Shiho shoots the ECCM and Minamoto arrests the pair. The security doors all suddenly slam shut though; the Normal People have taken command of the bank and have now trapped them all inside to die. Shiho tries to shoot out the ECM, but half of them are fake, and the other half are designed to… do horrible things if dismantled with violence. Thankfully, she hits a fake one.
After some more squabbling, Kaoru wants one thing before she dies, so she starts posing with Minamoto while the others snap pictures. Seeing the cellphones, Minamoto throws Kaoru aside and cannabilizes them to fix the ECCM. Mio mopes about how everybody loves Kaoru as he works. Once it’s fixed and Kaoru’s power proves insufficient to blow open the entire bank, Minamoto uses the boosters and Mio lends her power to the trio and they explode out of the bank. Everybody is relieved until Kaoru beans herself with a gold bar and all the gold/money falls to the ground. Natsuko and Hotaru are nearby and start flipping out over it. Mio and Muscle escape in the commotion, but the bank president compliments Minamoto on the girls.
Meanwhile, Kyosuke has captured the Normal People, but tells Kuromitsu to keep it a secret from Mio that he helped them. He gets ready to fly off, but Fujiko is there to stop him. She’s sick of him meddling and trying to start a war, so she attacks. The two trade attacks, her yelling that Minamoto is not like that guy, but he yells back that he’s the exact same. Kyosuke gets the upper hand, but is wracked by a sudden pain and Fujiko nearly finishes him off. Before she can, arms grab her and throw her into a building. The rest of PANDRA shows up to guard Kyosuke. They all taunt Fujiko before they leave.
Fujiko vs Kyosuke (slight A/V desync, sorry)

That next ep caught my attention from the manga.
