Hidamari Sketch x365 #10 — Meet the Parents

And some gnomes… but mostly the parents.

Impressions:

You know, to be honest… I’m glad this show is nearly over. This experiment in covering a low key, plotless anime has really proven to me how ill-suited for the job I am. I feel like I ran out of things to say a month ago and have just been coasting on fumes ever since then. I did like Yuno’s shoe-making gnomes daydream, just because that was one of my favorite Brothers Grimm stories when I was a kid. I’m not really certain why, but it just stuck in my mind. The whole clay shoe making part in general was pretty entertaining for that matter. Some good jokes about Yuno’s tiny feet (you know what they say about girls with tiny feet), to Miyako’s attempt to use a pair of skates. Miyako even ended it on a nice stinger, using the stanky looking guy shoes to prank Sae.

Yuno’s parents weren’t quite as entertaining, but they had a few moments. I thought that they could have milked Yuno’s dad finding a suspicious hair and assuming it was a guy a little more, or cashing in on Yuno’s ‘massage’ tickets, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be. It’s worth noting that Sae is apparently the parallel to Yuno’s mom. I’m not entirely certain what that makes Hiro. Maybe destined to be massaged by Yuno. I also want to know what exactly Misato’s Trap was. They flashed it up quickly, but Yuno changed the subject before her dad could ask about it. Of course, the attack of shadowy Yoshinoya invading one’s home is also worth a chuckle or two, although it always feels strange to me when she’s not squeaking.

I wonder what that says about me then… :/

Isn’t the trap a pull-rope that, when tugged, drops a huge metal pan on the puller? And the rope only shows up when it rains, for some reason?

And Miyako, or Yoshinoya-sensei for that matter, are free to invade my house at anytime. As for blogging this series… I’d have to suggest one thing – skip the critical reviews and just sit back and enjoy the ride. It’s a bit hard to blog about, especially with the way the timeline jumps around so there’s no real coherent story to follow, especially when they cram three stories into one ep.

By the way, rewatch the Widescreen versions of the show if you can – bit of extra detail’s always nice, especially with Hiro.
