Earl and Fairy #01 — The Fairy Kidnaps the Doctor
September 30th, 2008
Ha HA! Gay jokes about a girly show.
Edit: Okay, am home, fixed things.
I’ll make a post for almost all new series (barring sequels) with a wrap-up and bullet point opinion of each once the premier week is over. Remember that these are just my kneejerk reactions to the first 20 minutes of shows, many of which in genres that I don’t even particularly like, but I do believe in giving every new series at least an episode to interest me.
Impressions:
First off, despite drunkenly incorrect popular opinion, this show will be airing on Tuesdays (first episode rebroadcast starting next week on the 7th) before it airs on Friday or Sunday. Hell, it’ll also be airing on Wednesdays and Thursdays for that matter on about seven different stations before the Friday AT-X broadcast. What the hell, guys? Were you hitting the liquor that hard on a Monday night? Damn drunks.
Anyway, I really don’t have a ton to say about this one. It’s very very VERY girly, right down to the doe-eyed female lead standing around as the pretty boy male sweeps her off her feet. Lots of closeups on the eyes to show how deadly serious and romantic everybody is, a male lead that is literally shedding sparklies and keeps a little Indian boy as his butler and sex slave yada yada yada yada… you know… the usual shoujo show cliches right down the wire. The fairy thing really didn’t play too big a part here aside from the wise cracking pseudo-cat.
As far as production values go… they really weren’t all too impressive. A montage OP is always a poor sign, and while there wasn’t an ED this time (more episode is a good thing!) there really wasn’t any amazing art or even noteworthy things done with the animation. As far as the general baseline goes, certainly in the lower half, but my limited experiences with the general shoujo genre indicates that this is par for the course. I may very well just be talking out my ass here though, so take it with a grain of salt. The voice acting was all pretty well done as well.
Hinano seems to be a fan, so I suggest hitting her up. Also, she has the girly bits that are probably useful to fully appreciate a show about a man wishing to be the lord of the fairies.
Sorry, I’m literally writing this as my flight’s boarding. Some of the caps aren’t finished uploading, but the thumbnails are all in place.
Silly Montage OP

URUSSEEe! *smacks you on the head with said bottle*
Actually I had no idea this was gonna even have an early broadcast until someone pointed it out. I never really look @ broadcast days, I look @ tokyo toshokan to see when the raw will be uploaded lol. I did see that it was airing on like every day of the week hence why I’m like “i dunno what day the raw will be up but based on that ill blog it that day”.
