Absolutely Lovely Children #19 — Naomi Banzai!

Banzai!

Impressions:

I’m feeling lazy tonight, so you get 50% more screens.

The first half of the episode was pretty hilarious all around, but things faltered quite a bit in the second. I loved the facial expressions of disbelief through all the "spying on Naomi" scenes, especially from Minamoto, just giving a sideways glare at the Children or Sakaki. The girls just wandering into the men’s bathroom and basically going "we’re the ones who came in here so it’s fine, right?" was also worth a chuckle at the usual role reversal. Naomi crying and the gang being touched by it was just a little too painfully cliche and lame for my tastes though. Hatsune was also a lot more entertaining now that she’s the lapdog of Kaoru instead of just a mentally deficient glutton.

Not too much else though. Still no PANDRA this week, though it looks like we’ll at least be bringing Kyosuke back next week. Unless Aoi’s the one that teleported Kashiwagi and Minamoto into a wall, which I suppose is not all that unlikely.

Brief Summary:

Naomi takes down some naval bad guys, but completely shuts out Tanizuki at the end. He remembers all her normal reactions to him and thinks that something’s wrong.

In BABEL’s men’s bathroom, he confides in Minamoto and the other guys about his secret Naomi files that he photographs using a satellite. Turns out she’s been shoplifting and up to generally no good. The Children (and Hatsune) want to know more too, but Minamoto yells at them for wandering into the men’s bathroom. They’re fine with it, though feign shock and whatnot until Tanizuki starts chasing them around… and then his towel falls off, scaring all of them for life. With the towel replaced, Tanizuki begs Minamoto for help, and the Children think that he really is being sincere.

Minamoto plans to use Akira to take over a hamster wearing a tiny camera to keep an eye on Naomi during the day. After trying to track her down at home, and finding Hotaru in the shower, and then being crushed under a sleeping Natsuko, Naomi leaves for school. Following her around all day gives them absolutely no clue that anything’s wrong, though Akira, Kaoru and Sakaki do enjoy watching all the high school girls. Akira loses her after school though, so Hatsune’s tracking takes over. Naomi sees a motorcycle gang pass a store and remarks that she’s found them.

She dons a biker suit, releases her limiter, and breaks into the gang’s bar. She’s got a few questions for them, but loses it when one of them hits on her and touches her shoulder and TK crushes him. The BABEL team has caught up by this point and watches the action. After threatening to destroy them a few times, Naomi calms down and says it’s all a misunderstanding, but the thugs still attack. She effortlessly blocks the attack and crushes a box to show what’ll happen if they don’t answer her. Minamoto thinks he might need to send The Children in, but Sakaki warns him what might happen if the Children and Naomi fight and he decides to wait.

Naomi explains that she’s looking for some thug that stole money from a friend, who then shoplifted a magazine. She stopped him and brought it back on the sly to make sure nobody got in trouble. The gang has no idea what she’s talking about, so she apologizes and breaks into tears. They’re so touched that they start showering her with gifts and food, but just then Tanizuki breaks in with her friend. After she crushes him for interfering as usual, her friend points out the guy that stole his money and the chase is on.

They follow him, with the whole bike gang in pursuit to help her and the others also following. Unfortunately, the fleeing thief careens off the road. Minamoto releases the limiters and the Children (and Wild Cat) go through their posing… forgetting to catch the guy first. They save him anyway and drop him in front of his pissed off gang. The leader hugs him and says how glad that he’s safe before the guy is lead away by the police. The gang all thanks Naomi and Tanizuki is touched as well… touched in the head a bit at least. Hatsune chomps on hamster-Akira.

Later, Naomi flies off on a mission with the biker gang all cheering for her as she leaves.

Preview:
