Zero no Tsukaima ~ The Princesses’ Rondo #02 — Quest’s Over!

July 13th, 2008

Alright. Everybody go home!

Impressions:

So many things to complain about… where to start… where to start. I guess poor Siesta’s an easy, but old one. Every time she’s on screen is a continued reminder of what she could have been. In a parallel world unlike this one, she was Saito’s commoner confidant, the girl he ran to every time Louise leapt up on her nobility high horse and said "screw you, I’m going to go die for my country." Take away that, and she’s pretty much just a whore. That’s an old complaint though, so let’s leave it aside.

On to Tiffania. Man, do I hate Mamiko Noto. I know she has a second voice. I watched half of Mnemonsyne. I’ve heard her other voice. Yet once again, like 99.95% of her roles, we’ve got her breathy cloying voice wheedling on attempting to feign innocence in yet another fanservice character. What a shock. I’ve never seen anything like this before. Heck, I’ve never made a rant like this before either.

Now then, characters out of the way, let’s move onto the plot. Remember all that drama in the first episode over "we’ve gotta find Tiffania and figure out what’s up with Saito’s rune and will he stay with Louise and what do we do now that he’s powerless blah blah blah." All resolved. Louise resummons a familiar, it’s Saito, he gets his magic runes back, everything goes back to normal. Except there’s still a clown out to kill them. What on earth was the point of that? Just to fabricate drama for an episode and a half? Hell, even that brief scene of Agnes training him and Saito remembering how he used to move now has no goddamned point. Unless they’re going to kill him and get rid of the runes a second time at least.

Also, let me mention that that was a nice shot of Agnes’ crotch, in case you weren’t already overdosed on the blatant fanservice this episode. They censored Louise groping Tiffania for some reason. Panties are fine. Louise and Siesta getting their clothes torn off by magic wolves… also fine. Agnes’s crotch, fine. But Louise fondling Tiffania? Bring on the censor bars! It’s not like it detracted from anything (aside from the sudden and painful drop in art quality for those five seconds… ouch), but it was baffling.

Ultrabrief Summry:

Siesta and her magical bag of cooking tricks (including raw meat in a suitcase) catch up and join the party so she can flooze herself at Saito some more. After they make camp for the night, Agnes takes Saito aside for some sword training. He manages to remember how he used to move after some flailing and counters one of Agnes’ attacks.

The next day, they find Tiffania (short quest!) who glomps Saito. Louise is angrified at Tiff’s giant rack and chases her around until Saito yells at her. She goes outside to mope and Siesta joins her to form the Anti-Tiff teamup, but they’re ambushed by Sheffield. Sheff’s wolves disarm Louise, but Siesta sacrifices her body to chuck the wand back from the middle of the pack. She’s immediately fine and fantasizing about Saito in her dream. After blowing up a few wolves, Louise tries to summon a familiar. Sheff is curious so let’s her finish. The green bubble appears and Saito hops out. Hugs all around. Sheff retreats because clowns are stupid and lets Louise and Saito renew the contract. His runes appear on his hand again as Siesta glomps him.

Then they go back to Tiffania’s and everybody has cake and Saito barks like a dog.

But I really love Mamiko Noto

  • AGear2Ax says:

What a boring stuff. It could be a lot interesting if Louise summon another familiar and Saito becomes the familiar of another mage or just stay as a Normal guy, but, this episode only show how to waste time in a first nonsense episode. I expected that Louise resummon Saito as her familiar but not too early in this season.

Ugh…I thought my hope could be renewed for this season, after the joke that was season 2. Guess not.

why cant people accept the fact the breasts are one of the wonderful things of gods green earth?

  • Solaris says:

Why am i not surprised by the cheap plot devices and inconsistant story?

I always tell Zero no Tsukaima doesn’t deserve it’s great popularity ._.”

  • kenjiharima says:

AGH!!! They’ve censor the breast grope with that black shading thingy!!! DOH!!! DVD’s… T_T

Well, it’s popular BECAUSE of the FANSERVICE. No one has considered it popular because of its wonderful plot and compelling story.

  • Darco_emp says:

Zero does have a good story… until the anime came along, JC did a wonderful job of killing the entire vol 8 and parts of vol 9 and 11…

Almost all the Tiff related plot are out of order now… Now they only need to mess up Tabasa rescue arc. I can only pray for an acceptable intro for Sylphid. Through it seems unlikely with the path Zero is heading in…

The only plus for the ep to me is 2 words: Bust revolution.

  • Solaris says:

    >No one has considered it popular because of its wonderful plot and compelling story
It could have been a nice plus, you know :/

  • biankita says:

woof. woof. i cannote believe they’re still using the same old route every episode… maltreatment-danger-rescue-masochism-repeat cycle -_-”’
