Sekirei #01 — On Wings of Light

July 2nd, 2008

I missed you, 7Arcs.

Impressions:

Well, a pretty good start, but a bit hampered by the fact that about 95% of the first 6 minutes was all in the previews. It’s hard to get particularly excited over seeing things that you’ve already seen. It won’t be an issue in future episodes, but all the fun action of this one was covered weeks ago. Production values are pretty much right on for a 7Arcs show. Pretty well animated with probably a few too many breasts flailing like jell-o in an earthquake. They also set things up a bit darker than the anime by showing Musubi (or someone that looks just like her) rescuing some kid and escaping over a mountain of bodies with another Sekirei. As I understand it (and I’ve been sheltering myself from the manga, though not really carefully), they’re blitzing right through the manga material in general. They got all the way up through Musubi’s wings in this episode and up to Minato getting booted out and en route to Sekirei Hinatasou.

A pretty good start regardless, but like I said, I’m a little underwhelmed since we’ve already seen pretty much all of the interesting stuff aside from the boobs. I did find the music pretty nice throughout, which is always a question mark, no matter who the studio. Minato sucks, but who on earth would be watching the show for Captain Doormat? I’m still getting used to the longer/fatter face design, but it already bothers me less than it did a week or two ago, so I’m sure I’ll be finished adapting in no time.

Obviously I’m sticking with this, but I’m not sure yet whether I’ll be doing full summaries or short ones. Totali will be covering it too, and possibly Omni, so probably short ones plus ripping out whatever interesting action 7Arcs throws our way. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve kept Lina waiting far too long.

  • Ravage says:

Bah, I think I won’t really like this, but I’ll have to watch it irregardless.
Seven Arcs + Hanazawa Kana is too good a combination to pass up. ;)

  • Hinano says:

    It has kissing!
but it also has huge hooters.
    :( Oh noes.

  • longhaul says:

havent read the manga yet, but isnt there something about a male character thats slowly becoming female?

  • fatesaber1223 says:

well one of the sekireis that the main male character will get in the future seems to be special. It doesn’t tell too much of about whys hes special but I am guessing that he is a hermaphrodite, that’s why they keep refering to him as a male although you see he has boobs.

p.s. his name is kagari the one that uses fire and wears a mask.

  • khronus says:

As far as ‘They also set things up a bit darker than the anime by showing Musubi (or someone that looks just like her) rescuing some kid and escaping over a mountain of bodies with another Sekirei’ it sounds like they’re just teasing something they revealed in the chapter 40-ish range of the manga.

  • Man0warr says:

The Musubi look-alike at the beginning is Sekirei #08, Yume. She is important much later on.

  • sage says:

    Dibs on Kazehana and Homura!!!

  • sage says:

She is important much later on.

“Important”, as in: “She packs a mean wallop”.

  • shadow says:

In the manga tge fights are bads, no action only power and fanservice

  • shadow says:

Other anime with poor fights and action, and many fanservice.

  • Rincewind says:

  • DmonHiro says:
