The Ruler of Nabari #08 — WHAT A TWIST!
May 25th, 2008
That was… just horrible.
Impressions:
Ugh. Remember when this show had action? And ninjas fighting ninjas? I remember calling it sort of like Tokyo Majin with a plot. I miss those days. Those were good days. Yoite should be a good thing. We could be having some neo-gun kata fights only with crap just randomly exploding all over the place. Instead, we get the shakey cam and blurs to show movement. How about some movement to show movement? That’d be nice. You can do it, JCStaff… I know you can. Maybe they’re just saving the cash for Slayers. I think I’d be fine with that too.
Anyway, Yae’s motives become clear and the team finishes their assassination while Yoite explodes some nameless grunts and pillars. Then, Katou turns out to be a double agent, and walks off into the sunset with Fuuma Koutarou. I wish I was kidding. That was horrible. You have one person in the show who can supposedly read into the heart of a nearly omnipotent being, but here’s Fuuma able to pretty easily circumvent that and trot off with the magic scroll.
BLEH. At least next week has Raikou slicing up some dudes. Hopefully we’ll get some actual action there instead of more shakeycams and blurry effects. I’m not holding my breath on this one anymore though. At least I got a laugh out of Mr Frosty’s English "Die, you bastard!" Now that he’s dead though, the Engrish fun is over.
A girl lies dead. Whose her face stares at her and bites her thumb until it bleeds. She’ll have revenge for Alisa.
In the parking garage, Yae lurks. Miharu is sitting nearby. She tells him not to worry about her telling Kumohira about him and Yoite. Miharu gets a bit annoyed with her trying to comfort him and thinks "old woman" over and over at her. They talk a little more, and she remembers her dead daughter. Miharu thanks her and goes to leave. She stops him and tells him to steel his heart.
Yukimi’s pissed off at being reduced to bodyguard duty.
Yoite just chows down on parfaits while his buddy just rants. Yoite suddenly looks up and says that they’re here. Miharu runs past below.
Elsewhere, Kumohira attacks the guard at the door. He senses the distribution of the people inside and formulates his plan of attack. He imagines Miharu and his vow not to kill. He mentally asks for forgiveness as he opens the door and rolls a flashbomb inside.
It explodes and Kumohira uses the cover to attack Mr Frosty… but his hand is pushed back and convulses before he can. Yoite and Yukimi are there with Miharu at gunpoint. Mr Frosty’s guards recover and prepare to move him out. Yukimi says that they’ll take care of things here and levels his gun at Kumohira.
Yoite and Miharu exchange a few words. They understand eachother and know what to do. Yukimi is a little confused. That glasses kid and the samurai girl are still missing. He yells at Mr Frosty’s guards to wait. They refuse, so he orders Yoite to follow them, but Yoite also declines.
Kumohira makes a move to attack, but Yukimi holds steady. During this time, Miharu’s moved to behind Kumohira. He’s released Yoite’s hold on him and throws some knives at Yukimi. He easily dodges, and then Kumohira takes cover as Yoite explodes a desk behind him. Miharu throws an ashtray at Yoite, which lands at his feet. Kumohira tells at Miharu to stay out of it, but Miharu says it’s fine. He’s the All-Nature, they won’t try to kill him. Yukimi takes a potshot at him anyway, so Kumohira disarms him with a tossed knife.
Mr Frosty arrives at the parking garage where Yae is waiting with her useless attendant. Something must have gone wrong since Kumohira isn’t there. Mr Frosty suddenly clutches his chest and collapses. The Ash Wolf guy runs to the car to get his medicine. Yae stares at him and remembers begging the Ash Wolf dude to save her daughter, but he wouldn’t. He blocked her path in fact.
He walks out to confront them. She pulls the Ash Wolf, Nowake Hideo out of the car and greets him.
The ninjas from upstairs catch up to the scene all at the same time and everybody stares down the collected scene. Yae stomps on Hideo’s hand when he demands they attack. More flashback to her eavesdropping on him plotting about letting her daughter die. ALL PART OF THE EVIL PLAN.
She declares that she’ll kill him. Hideo tries to talk his way out of the situation, but she tells him that he doesn’t understand any of what she feels. She reveals her own evil plan to destroy him and the Banten dudes look on nervously.
Her subordinate lurks behind a pillar with a knife, but Yoite nails his arm with his finger gun and YUM YUM BONETWISTING FUN. Yukimi takes advantage of the distraction and attacks Yua, forcing her to take cover.
As she gets ready to attack, Miharu yells out a warning to Yoite, telling him that she can read his heart. Yoite hits her in the leg as she attacks, but she delcares that his heart is open to her. She knows his feeling and knows everything about him.
As she reveals it and goes into his mind, he starts to hallucinate and starts shooting his finger gun at random all around her in panic.
With Yoite frazzled, she runs away. Yukimi orders him to kill her, but Yoite’s lost it. He starts shooting at random, killing Mr Frosty’s bodyguards. One of his stray shots hits Hideo’s hand. As Miharu watches, he flashes back to his bonding session and runs to Yoite.
Yoite focuses on Yae and hits her in the leg. He focuses on her for the kill, but Miharu gets in his way and blocks it with his hand.
Yoite falls back. Kumohira immediately banadages Miharu’s bleeding hand. Yae gets up, but Kumohira tells her that it’s over.
Yukimi tries to go to Yoite, but he’s completely frazzled. Yukimi says that he’ll kill her then.
Yae says that she’ll take over on her own and goes to Mr Frosty. Kumohira flips a rock up into his hand and rushes at Yae from behind. However, he rushes past her towards Mr Frosty. Frosty’s on his hands and knees begging for his life though, so Kumohira stops. Mr Frosty comes up with a gun and an English "Die, you bastard!"
Kumohira’s shocked and pissed at himself for being naive.
A shot rings out.
Mr Frosty falls. Kouichi steps out of the elevator with the gun and apologizes for being late. Yoite looks at things and then walks off. Yukimi gives chase, yelling insults back at the rest as he leaves.
Kumohira collapses, and Kouichi moves over to Hideo. He threatens him and uses a ninja technique to implant the suggestion that he’s the one that killed Mr Frosty. He hands him the gun and completes the illusion. Hideo repeats that he’s the killer over and over. Yae crazily declares her revenge complete.
As Hideo’s led away, the Banten men relax with some drinks. Kumohira’s pleased with how Miharu and Kouichi performed. Yae is there. Actually… he’s got the fake scroll for them. It’s a lie though, it’s the real one. She realizes it with a shock.
Koutarou’s laughter rings out. He greets Katou and explains that he’s basically the semi-evil mastermind behind things. Katou’s one of his men, and Koutarou’s been using some random ninja thing to keep everything a secret from her mind reading abilities. Yae’s shocked that Katou’s heart was locked off to her. He declares that what he felt for her was real.
Fuuma takes the scroll and tells them to keep doing their best, then ninjas himself and Katou away in a cloud of CG leaves.
At the train station, Yae thanks them for everything they’ve done and apologizes as well. She says good bye. Kumohira asks what she’ll do now. She doesn’t really know. Miharu has some parting words of encouragement, and the train takes off.
Yae calls her office. Everybody there was worried about her. They’re all happy and waiting for her with laughter. She’s nearly in tears over it.
