Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei #08 — Half an Episode
February 24th, 2008
Well, it certainly doesn’t compare to last week.
Impressions:
I can’t believe that Zetusbou Sensei would be fighting it out with Kimiaru for the worst episode of Saturday. Well, I suppose it’s not actually Saturday anymore. I blame communism. And French Stewart. Damn him.
Anyway, part one was about suspicion (at a water park no less) and Chiri catching spies, part 2 was some strange Japanese idiom that I’m unfamiliar with… something about discovering new things in spring, and part 3 was about how ‘half’ is a misnomer when used for anything but measurements. Chiri went nuts and made everything conform to being half. It wasn’t as lame as the other two parts, but it was still pretty lackluster compared to the last couple. At least it had lots of Chiri, but even that wasn’t really enough to muster more than an obligatory chuckle or two. Mostly, I just wanted him to stop saying ‘han han.’ No craziness this episode. No rotating art styles. No voice actor switcharoo. No gibberish vocals with subtitles. Just a relatively sedate episode. I think somebody slipped ritalin into Shaft’s food after the last episode because this one just felt lifeless in comparison. The only thing that really stands out to me as I think about the episode was the ending… but that’s probably just because it’s the last thing that I saw.

So… Abiru’s trying to appeal to the Bandage Moe section of the audience, we’ve got what appears to be both a Charlie’s Angels as well as a Keroro Gunso shot… swimsuits, a really weird looking Rin, and… yandere.
I think I’ll need a translation, and some absinthe, to make sense of this episode.
