Shakugan no Shana II #18 — Mighty Morphin’ Crimson Denizen

February 14th, 2008

I bet they combine to form the Tigerzord.

Impressions:

Man. What are Ogata and Eita still hanging around for? Didn’t they get the memo? You’re finished, kids. Go away.

This episode was mostly just more setup with very little happening. Yuji can now throw energy blasts and is developing that arrogant edge that’ll help his transition into the dark lord of Bal Masque a fine upstanding citizen, Chigusa’s pregnancy sickness is revealed, and the new team of Denizens have color coded cravats and are led by a burning pile of garbage. I guess since it’s on fire, it might at least burn somebody… and probably stinks to high heaven. It’s definitely a step up from the Denizen with a parking meter for a head. He kind of reminds me of the Grand Galactic Inquisitor honestly. I did find it amusing that they used cell phones to talk to eachother. Margery has no problem whipping up magical communication talismen, but these guys had to raid a Nokia.

All that really happens this episode is showing Yuji getting stronger, then with his inflated sense of self-worth, he tries to protect Shana and Kazumi, but ends up running headlong into the Super Sentai Denizen Squad. Unfortunately, the only shot of action in the preview is Shana flying around. Hopefully that’s just misleading and the baddies won’t have ambushed Yuji just to say hello and wander off. On the other hand, given how they’ve been presented so far, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the Denizen world’s Queer Eye for the Straight Guy squadron out to give Yuji a faaaaaaabulous makeover. Honestly… who wears a cravat these days? I’m also hoping that the Grand Galactic Inquisitor will be a little more menacing than just a pile of burning garbage. IGNORE ME!

You don’t know how right you are…

    I’m not kidding.

Most awesome part was how they were calling each other, even though they were within normal speaking/shouting range.

Can’t wait to see Bifron’s awesome special move that takes up so much power (like Annaberg’s amazing steam cleaning action).
