Ultimate Survivor Kaiji #12 — Gaining Perspective

December 18th, 2007

This is why we can’t have nice things… like consistency.

Impressions:

The Kaiji staff really needs to work on its continuity. First, Kaiji’s little threesome are behind everybody else in the race. Then, after three minutes of existential self-discovery, followed by some boyish tussling, they’re ahead of the rest by a good meter or two. I can only guess that every single other front runner leapt off. Or we’re stuck in some sort of temporal vortex. Each are equally likely.

In the end, Kaiji can’t bring himself to push, but has no qualms about getting into an argument with the guy behind him about the moral implications of pushing, resulting in both of them falling, but catching the beam with their hands. Also note that Kaiji has really really stubby fingers, or that the animators forgot that the beam was supposed to be narrower than their shoes at that point. Using the length of his fingers as a reference, that beam is still at least a foot wide, which means that people in Kaiji either have huge feet or wear gigantic shoes.

Anyway, not much more interesting after that. Lots of setup for the ones that managed to cross the beams to go on to bigger and better things next episode. I was at least amused through the first part. Yeah, everybody didn’t spontaneously start crying over the cruelty of mankind, but the production mistakes were enough to make me laugh. In short, I’m pretty sure that I enjoyed this episode for all the wrong reasons.

WTF? Has someone got a gun to your head, making you watch this show? Because that’s what you sound like..

I mean seriously does anyone actually give a fuck how far kaiji’s fingers extend across the beam?

  • Chokkan says:

Well, Its anime! Every anime show bends the physical laws of the universe(-the time lapse-)every once in a while! People should get use to it. But i agree on one point(-the beam-), since Kaiji is a 26 episode show, i expected the animators would pay more attention to the details but in spite of this minor mistake, it was a damn good episode!

  • Bill says:

Yeah just stop watching the show, as you should around the end of the rps arc really. You really shouldnt be watching this show since youre clearly missing the point and nit picking ‘semantic mistakes’ equivalents of animation.

Youre just too smart from the sounds of it. Well good job, smarty pants….you win the award of noticing things noone cares about.
